Abstract: Prosthetic heart valves and methods of use of prosthetic heart valves may be provided. In one implementation, a prosthetic heart valve may include an annular spacer configured for implantation with a native heart valve opening and a central valve section configured for disposal within the annular spacer. The central valve section may include at least one anchoring protrusion configured to anchor the central valve section against axial movement relative to the annular spacer. During deployment, the central valve section may be advanced downstream beyond the implanted annular spacer, and moved upstream until the anchoring protrusion engages the annular spacer.

Abstract: An implant is configured to be coupled to first and second native leaflets of a native heart valve of a patient. The implant includes a proximal collar, a distal collar, and first and second clasps. Each of the first and second clasps has first and second tissue-engaging portions that are (1) disposed distal to the proximal collar and proximal to the distal collar, (2) movable, with respect to each other, to clamp one of the leaflets between the first and second tissue-engaging portions of the clasp, and (3) movable, when clamped to the leaflet, toward and away from a central longitudinal axis of the implant. First and second gripping members are coupled to the frame, each including atrial and ventricular arms. The implant is disposed in the sheath in a delivery state in which the frame defines a wall fully surrounding a central longitudinal axis of the implant. The distal end of the wall defines a distal opening of the frame. The distal end of the wall is disposed proximally to the second end of the ventricular arm of each of the gripping members. The second end of each ventricular arm moves toward the axis of the implant more than the first end moves toward the axis. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: A heart valve repair system includes a delivery sheath and an implant that includes a frame having a surface configured to contact an upstream surface of a native heart valve. First and second gripping members are coupled to the frame and each (1) includes first and second arms and (2) is configured to clamp a respective native leaflet. Abstract: A transluminal sheath is advanced transseptally into a left atrium of the subject. A distal end of a surrounding-sheath, having an anchor disposed therein, is advanced via a distal end of the transluminal sheath, into a left ventricle of the subject via a commissure of the mitral valve. While the distal end of the surrounding-sheath is in the left ventricle, the surrounding-sheath is pulled proximally with respect to the anchor to expose the anchor. While the distal end of the surrounding-sheath is in the left ventricle, mitral valve tissue that is within the left ventricle is encircled by helically wrapping the anchor around the mitral valve tissue. Subsequently, the surrounding-sheath is extracted from the heart. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: A method includes advancing apparatus including a core toward a patient's heart valve. The core tapers in a distal direction toward the smallest perimeter of the core. The apparatus includes a first ventricular arm, which is articulatable with respect to a first atrial arm at a first articulation site, and a second ventricular arm, which is articulatable with respect to a second atrial arm at a second articulation site. The articulation sites are adjacent to the smallest perimeter. The tapering of the core defines a minimum nonzero angle of the atrial arms with respect to a central longitudinal axis of the core. The method also includes clamping the first and second leaflets between the respective atrial arms and the respective ventricular arms. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: For some applications, apparatus is provided for facilitating implantation of a prosthetic valve (150) at a native heart valve (120) of a subject, the apparatus comprising a prosthetic valve support (22), the prosthetic valve support (a) being configured to be transluminally-deliverable to the native valve and to be deployable at the native valve, and (b) comprising one or more tissue-engaging elements (24), configured to couple the prosthetic valve support to leaflets (128) of the native valve without eliminating check valve functionality of the native valve. Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described including a prosthetic valve support (40) configured to be placed at a patient's native atrioventricular valve annulus. The valve support defines an annular element (44) that defines an inner cross-sectional area thereof. An expandable prosthetic valve (80) is placed into the patient's ventricle, the prosthetic valve including an expandable frame (79) and prosthetic valve leaflets (82) coupled to the frame. When the frame is in a non-constrained state thereof, a cross-sectional area of the frame, along at least a given portion L of the frame's length, is greater than the cross-sectional area defined by the annular element. The prosthetic valve is couplable to the prosthetic valve support at any location along the portion, by the frame being expanded when the location along the portion is aligned with the annular element. Other applications are also described.
