Abstract: A coated glass article is described herein that includes a glass substrate including a first major surface and a second major surface. The first major surface and the second major surface may be opposing sides of the glass substrate. The coated glass article includes an optical coating disposed on the first major surface of the glass substrate. The coated glass article may have a retained strength after impact damage of greater than or equal to 250 MPa. The coated glass article may have a failure height of greater than or equal to 50 cm as measured according to a Drop Test Method on 80 grit sandpaper. In addition, the substrate can comprise 5.0-10.0 mol % Li2O, 1.0-10.0 mol % Na2O, and a lithium to sodium molar ratio (Li2O:Na2O) from 1.2 to 2.0.

Abstract: A cover article for a sensor is described herein that includes: a substrate comprising a thickness from 50 μm to 5000 μm, an outer primary surface, and an inner primary surface; and an outer layered film disposed on the outer primary surface. The substrate is a chemically-strengthened glass or glass-ceramic substrate. The cover article exhibits a first-surface average reflectance of less than 10% for wavelengths from 1000 nm to 1700 nm for at least one angle of incidence from 8° to 60°.

Abstract: A test apparatus comprises a probe movably mounted relative to a carrier. The probe comprises an end portion with a surface area of about 5 mm2 or less. The test apparatus can be used in methods of determining a crush strength of an edge of a substrate. Methods can comprise aligning the probe with a test location of the substrate at a predetermined angle relative to a probe axis. Methods can further comprise applying a mechanical force to the test location with the probe in the direction of the probe axis. Also, methods can comprise increasing the mechanical force applied by the probe until the substrate cracks or a predefined force applied by the probe is reached. Based on the mechanical force applied by the probe, a crush strength of an edge can be determined.

Abstract: A screen protector is described herein that is configured to be releasably attached to an optical coating on a glass-containing display of an electronic device. The protector comprises: a glass-containing substrate comprising an outer and inner primary surface; an antireflective (AR) coating on the outer primary surface; and an interlayer on the inner primary surface for releasable attachment to the optical coating on the display. The interlayer comprises an adhesive, a physical thickness from about 10 μm to 500 μm, and one or more refractive indices from ˜1.2 to 1.6. Further, an average photopic reflectance of the screen protector can be less than 2% for all incident angles from 0° to 30°. The interlayer can comprise optically clear adhesive (OCA), polymer-containing layer, and releasable adhesive layers. An anti-splinter (AS) film can be between the interlayer and the substrate. The interlayer and/or AS film may be a cyclo olefin, cellulose triacetate or polyurethane.

The optical film structure comprises a plurality of alternating high refractive index (RI) and low RI layers and a scratch-resistant layer. The article also exhibits an average photopic transmittance of greater than 80% and a maximum hardness of greater than 10 GPa, as measured by a Berkovich Hardness Test over an indentation depth range from about 100 nm to about 500 nm. The glass-ceramic substrate comprises an elastic modulus of greater than 85 GPa and a fracture toughness of greater than 0.8 MPa·√m. Further, the optical film structure exhibits a residual compressive stress of ≥ 700 MPa and an elastic modulus of ≥140 GPa.
