摘要: According to one or more embodiments described herein, a coated article may comprise: a transparent substrate having a major surface, the major surface comprising a textured or rough surface inducing light scattering; and an optical coating disposed on the major surface of the transparent substrate and forming an air-side surface, the optical coating comprising one or more layers of material, the optical coating having a physical thickness of greater than 300 nm, wherein the coated article exhibits a maximum hardness of about 10 GPa or greater as measured on the air-side surface by a Berkovich Indenter Hardness Test along an indentation depth of about 50 nm or greater.

摘要: An article that includes: a substrate having a glass, glass-ceramic or a ceramic composition and comprising a primary surface; and a protective film disposed on the primary surface. The protective film comprises a thickness of greater than 1.5 microns and a maximum hardness of greater than 15 GPa at a depth of 500 nanometers, as measured on the film disposed on the substrate. Further, the protective film comprises a metal oxynitride that is graded such that an oxygen concentration in the film varies by 1.3 or more atomic %. In addition, the substrate comprises an elastic modulus less than an elastic modulus of the film.

摘要: One or more aspects of the disclosure pertain to an article including a film disposed on a glass substrate, which may be strengthened, where the interface between the film and the glass substrate is modified, such that the article has an improved average flexural strength, and the film retains key functional properties for its application. Some key functional properties of the film include optical, electrical and/or mechanical properties. The bridging of a crack from one of the film or the glass substrate into the other of the film or the glass substrate can be suppressed by inserting a nanoporous crack mitigating layer between the glass substrate and the film.

摘要: An article, comprising an optical layer disposed on a transparent layer, can have a maximum hardness of about 10 GigaPascals (GPa) to about 50 GPa. The optical layer can comprise a first portion and a second portion that are contiguous with one another at one major surface the optical layer. The portions may exhibit specific differences in average reflectance value, observed color, and/or angular color shift relative to each other. In some embodiments, a photopic average reflectance of the first portion may differ from an average reflectance of the second portion by about 5% or more. In other embodiments, a color of the first portion can have a color difference from a color of the second portion of about 4 or more in CIE color coordinate space.

The coated article has strain-to-failure of about 0.5% or more as measured by a Ring-on-Ring Tensile Testing Procedure. The coated article has an average photopic transmission of about 80% or greater.

摘要: A scratch resistant alkali aluminoborosilicate glass. The glass is chemically strengthened and has a surface layer that is rich in silica with respect to the remainder of the glass article. The chemically strengthened glass is then treated with an aqueous solution of a mineral acid other than hydrofluoric acid, such as, for example, HCl, HNO3, H2SO4, or the like, to selective leach elements from the glass and leave behind a silica-rich surface layer. The silica-rich surface layer improves the Knoop scratch threshold of the ion exchanged glass compared to ion exchanged glass that are not treated with the acid solution as well as the post-scratch retained strength of the glass.

The coated article may exhibit at the first portion of the substrate and at the second portion of the substrate hardness of about 8 GPa or greater at an indentation depth of about 50 nm or greater as measured on the anti-reflective surface by a Berkovich Indenter Hardness Test.

摘要: Embodiments of durable, anti-reflective articles are described. In one or more embodiments, the article includes a substrate and an optical coating disposed on the major surface. The optical coating includes an anti-reflective coating and a scratch-resistant coating forming an anti-reflective surface. The article exhibits a maximum hardness of 12 GPa or greater, as measured on the anti-reflective surface by a Berkovich Indenter Hardness Test along an indentation depth of about 100 nm or greater. The articles of some embodiments exhibit a single side average light reflectance measured at the anti-reflective surface of about 8% or less over an optical wavelength regime in the range from about 400 nm to about 800 nm and a reference point color shift in transmittance or reflectance of less than about 2. In some embodiments, the article exhibits an angular color shift of about 5 or less at all angles from normal incidence to an incident illumination angle that is 20 degrees or greater.

摘要: A glass-film laminate or article having a narrow failure distribution or a Weibull modulus of greater than 10. In embodiments, the glass-film laminate or article includes at least one first film disposed on a strengthened glass substrate. A first film or any additional films can exhibit an average strain-to-failure that is less than the strain-to-failure of the strengthened glass substrate. In embodiments, the first first film is adhered to the glass substrate such that the first film does not exhibit visible delamination from the glass substrate. Methods of forming glass-film laminates or articles with a desired strength level and narrow failure strength distrubution are also disclosed.
