Abstract: According to one or more embodiments disclosed herein, a coated article may include a substrate and an optical coating. The optical coating may be disposed on a major surface of the substrate and may form an air-side surface. The optical coating may include an optical stack, an adhesion coating, and an easy-to-clean coating. The adhesion coating may comprise an alumina layer and a silica layer. The present disclosure is also directed to methods for depositing optical coatings on substrates and to consumer electronic products which include the coated articles.

Abstract: An article that includes: a glass, glass-ceramic or ceramic substrate comprising a primary surface; at least one of an optical film and a scratch-resistant film disposed over the primary surface; and an easy-to-clean (ETC) coating comprising a fluorinated material that is disposed over an outer surface of the at least one of an optical film and a scratch-resistant film. The at least one of an optical film and a scratch-resistant film comprises an average hardness of 12 GPa or more. Further, the outer surface of the at least one of an optical film and a scratch-resistant film comprises a surface roughness (Rq) of less than 1.0 nm. Further, the at least one of an optical film and a scratch-resistant film comprises a total thickness of about 500 nm or more.

Abstract: A cover article is described herein that includes: a substrate having a primary surface; an optical structure disposed on the primary surface, wherein the optical structure comprises an optical coating and a scratch resistant layer, and wherein the optical coating has an outer surface; and an easy-to-clean (ETC) coating disposed on the outer surface of the optical coating, wherein the ETC coating comprises a fluorine-containing material. The outer surface of the optical coating has a surface roughness (Ra) less than 1.5 nm. The optical structure has a physical thickness of greater than or equal to 500 nm and a maximum hardness of 10 GPa or greater, as measured on the outer surface of the optical coating by a Berkovich Indenter Test along an indentation depth of 50 nm or greater. The scratch resistant layer has a physical thickness from 200 nm to 5000 nm.

Abstract: An optical film structure that includes: an optical film comprising a physical thickness from about 50 nm to about 3000 nm, and a silicon-containing nitride or a silicon-containing oxynitride. The optical film exhibits a maximum hardness of greater than 18 GPa, as measured by a Berkovich Indenter Hardness Test over an indentation depth range from about 100 nm to about 500 nm on a hardness stack comprising a test optical film with a physical thickness of about 2 microns disposed on an inorganic oxide test substrate, the test optical film having the same composition as the optical film. Further, the optical film exhibits an optical extinction coefficient (k) of less than 1×10−2 at a wavelength of 400 nm and a refractive index (n) of greater than 1.8 at a wavelength of 550 nm.
