    摘要: A process of three dimensional lithography in amorphous polymers to form an instantaneous, permanent image in the polymer by the steps of providing an undoped, non-crystalline layer or film of a polymer having a stable amorphous state under human operating conditions. The film is preferably poly(ethyleneterphthalate) (PET), poly(aryl-ether-ether-ketone) (PEEK), poly(chloro-trifluoroethylene) (Kel-F.RTM.), poly(carbonate) (ie LEXAN 9032.RTM.), poly(sulfone), poly(methylmethacrylate(PMMA, or LUCITE.RTM.), a poly(cyanurate) such as bisphenol A dicyanate, or an epoxy (eg. Epon 820.RTM.). The film can be either self supporting or mounted on a substrate. The film is then covered (and optionally contacted) with a mask which serves to block the radiation from impinging on where no marking is desired. If the mask is in actual contact with the film, it is capable of also acting as a heat sink. Next, the film is exposed through the mask to radiation of sufficient intensity to cause ablation of the exposed areas imparting a distinct, three-dimensional impression in the film. The film may then, for example, be processed by metalization and coating with a protective layer to form a finished product of an optical data storage disk.

    摘要: An optical data storage medium comprises a substrate layer, a recording medium and an optional protective layer. The substrate layer supports the recording medium. The recording medium comprises a polymer having stable amorphous and crystalline states under human operating conditions which states have different optical properties. The recording medium is optionally covered and protected by a protective layer. The substrate, recording medium and protective layer can be formed from the same or different polymers. The data is stored by exposing the recording medium to patterned infra-red radiation. The radiation can be patterned by a mask, movement of the radiation beam or by other means to imprint the data on the recording medium.

    摘要: An armor system with a composite laminate having at least four alternating layers (two bi-layers) of a first material and a second material, the first material having a lower acoustic impedance than the second material. The first material is a viscoelastic polymer with a glass transition temperature less than the expected operational temperature range, and the second material can be a hard material such as steel, aluminum, or ceramic. The laminate can include many alternating layers of elastomer and hard material, and can be adhered or affixed to a thicker armor substrate. The second material layer can be a layer of hollow or solid spheres. Additional protective elements such as front surface hemispheres or conical projections, and corrugated panels can be added to improve resistance to armor piercing rounds, explosively formed penetrators, or other threats.

    摘要: Colored tire stocks having improved abrasion resistance, color and color stability as compared to conventional colored tire stocks such as white sidewall stocks are provided. The colored tire stocks of the invention comprise crosslinked colored rubber compositions containing from 10 to 90% of ionic crosslinks and from 90 to 10% of free radical induced covalent crosslinks. These colored tire stocks may be utilized as functional tire stocks such as colored sidewall stocks (e.g. white sidewalls) or as decorative tire stocks such as raised colored letters (e.g. raised white letters) which identify the tire manufacturer.

Cool a cylindrical glass or ceramic element to a temperature below that of a cylindrical casing, place the cylindrical glass or ceramic element into the cylindrical casing while the cylindrical glass or ceramic element is cool, and seal the cylindrical casing and allow the temperature of the cylindrical glass or ceramic element to rise, such that the cylindrical casing compresses the cylindrical glass or ceramic element. Alternately, heat a metal cylindrical casing, press glass or ceramic into the cylinder while the metal cylinder is at an elevated temperature, seal the metal cylindrical casing while metal cylindrical casinger is at an elevated temperature, and allow the the metal cylinder to cool, such that when cooled, the cylindrical casing will compress the glass in all directions.
