A hydrophilic, high molecular weight nonionic polyurethane, characterized by solubility in water and by a specific viscosity of at least 0.4 (1% by weight solution at 20° C.) is provided. Examples of such polyurethanes are those characterized by the following structural units: a) —O(—CH2—CH2—O)n—, where n=8 to 500, and b) —CO—NH—X—NH—CO—, where X is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical. Also provided are methods of using the polyurethane as an adhesive, more particularly a hotmelt adhesive or a solvent-based adhesive, for example a wallpaper adhesive and labelling adhesive, of using polyurethane as a stabilizer in the emulsion polymerization of, in particular, vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride and in the copolymerization of ethylene and vinyl acetate, and of using the polyurethane as a thickener for aqueous systems, more particularly together with nonionic surfactants.

The coupling to a specific PHY may be based on auto-detection of network activity, or network devices, via the PHYs. Also, one of the PHYs may be coupled to the MAC as a power-up default. The PHYs may be coupled to a same network, by, for example, cables. A first cable to a first PHY may couple it to a first network switch and a second cable to a second PHY may couple it to a second network switch. The first network switch may be rated to handle, for example, a greater data rate than the second network switch. The first cable may not be able to be used as a cable for the second PHY, and vice versa.

A method for increasing an adhesive to a substrate is disclosed which utilizes a hydrophilic, high molecular weight, nonionic polyurethane adhesive. The polyurethane adhesive is soluble in water and a 1% by weight solution of the adhesive in water at 20% has a specific viscosity of at least 0.4. The invention relates to a copolymer which can be obtained by radical copolymerisation of at least two components A and B. According to the invention, a) at least one ester of one at least difunctional carboxylic acid which has at least one olefinically unsaturated double bond is used with an alkyl oxide addition compound as component A and b) at least one additional monomer which can be subjected to radical polymerisation is used as component B. The invention also relates to a method for producing copolymers of this type and to the use thereof, in particular, to their use as a binding agent in adhesives.
