Abstract: A system for ESC protection includes a spectrum access system (SAS) configured to allocate a frequency band in the system and at least one Citizens Broadband Radio Service device (CBSD) communicatively coupled to the SAS and configured to provide wireless service to UEs. The system also includes at least one ESC communicatively coupled to the SAS and configured to detect RADAR signals from offshore RADAR devices. The SAS is configured to assign grants to the at least one CBSD such that the aggregate signal energy received at the ESC does not cross an overload threshold, as calculated by the SAS. The ESC is configured to detect an aggregate signal energy received at the ESC, and trigger, in response to the aggregate signal energy exceeding the overload threshold, an operation that suspends transmission of at least one CBSD or moves at least one CBSD to a different frequency channel.

Abstract: A method for selecting at least one channel for a network element in a shared spectrum communication system is provided. The method includes identifying a plurality of candidate channels of a frequency band of the shared spectrum communication system. For each channel of the plurality of channels, the method further includes: evaluating the channel based on one or more of a plurality of criteria for the network element; scoring the channel based on the evaluation of the channel for the network element; and ranking the plurality of candidate channels based on the assigned scores for each of the plurality of channels. The method further includes selecting at least one channel based on the ranking of the plurality of candidate channels.

Abstract: Techniques for determining power levels of radios, including a time domain duplexing (TDD) system, in shared frequency spectrum is provided. A TDD radio, of the TDD system, in a neighborhood having a largest interference contribution in the frequency spectrum at the point. Transmit power levels are determined for (a) the selected TDD radio, (b) other radios in the neighborhood that are not part of the TDD system, and (c) at least one radio in the TDD system that is not the TDD radio having the largest interference contribution in the frequency spectrum. Thus, interference margin may be fairly allocated to radios in neighborhood(s) about protection points.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for more accurately determining interference contribution at a point in a neighborhood of a time division duplexing (TDD) system operating in shared frequency spectrum. If at least one TDD radio, of a TDD system, is in the neighborhood, then determine a largest interference level, at the point in the shared frequency spectrum, by a TDD radio of the TDD system, where the TDD radio is in the region around the point. The largest interference level is selected as the aggregate interference contribution of the TDD system for interference analysis in the shared spectrum at the point.

Abstract: Systems and methods for SAS interference calculation management are provided. In one embodiment, a system comprises: a processor coupled to a memory; a network interface configured to couple the SAS to a network, the processor coupled to the interface; and a grant request processing function executed by the processor, the grant request processing function processes grant requests received from radios located in a neighborhood defined around a protection area, wherein the requests comprises a request to transmit on a protected frequency channel of the protected area; wherein the grant request processing function manages a timing of when to processes interference calculations associated with the grant requests based on or both of: determining whether to steer a requesting radio to a non-protected frequency channel; and at least one Q/N estimate power calculation, wherein Q comprises a value of an allowed interference power limit, and N is a number of authorized radios.
