Abstract: A filter including a shell with at least one viewing region, a translucent bowl that fits and is installable within the shell, and an attachment mechanism. The bowl is positionable within the shell such that at least a portion of the bowl is visible through the viewing region. The attachment mechanism securely attaches the bowl the shell together and prevents at least one of vertical and rotational movement between the bowl and the shell. The shell and the bowl are not threaded to each other.

Abstract: An automatic drain device is configured for use with a fuel water separator filter system. The automatic drain device includes a solenoid, a water-in-fuel sensor, and a controller configured to operate the automatic drain device by activating the solenoid in response to a signal from the water-in-fuel sensor. The automatic drain device may be utilized with suction side and pressure side fuel water separator filter systems. The automatic drain device operates independently of any user input.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining whether an authorized or genuine filter element is installed in a filtration system are described. The authorized filter determination may be based on radio frequency identification (“RFID”) technology. RFID readers with antennas in the monitored filter systems read the RFID tag information from the installed filter elements and feed any detected information into the filter monitoring system. The filter monitoring system or a remote diagnostic system analyzes the returned data (or absence thereof) to determine if a genuine (i.e., authorized, OEM approved, etc.) filter element is installed or not.

Abstract: A filter system including a designated filter cartridge having a geometric projection, a flow restriction valve that controls fluid flow out of the filter system, and a priming pump configured to prime the filter. The flow restriction valve includes an opening keyed to the geometric projection such that the geometric projection engages the opening and actuates the flow restriction valve. The flow restriction valve includes at least one fluid flow check valve configured to allow the priming pump to prime the filter system.
