To address counterfeit problems, for example, we propose a secure, flexible, and cost-effective authentication solution that can be integrated into conventional distribution logistic systems. The proposed solution for product authentication and distribution channel validation comprises three major components: 1) machine-readable Raman-active chemical taggant; 2) a taggant reader; and 3) a taggant eraser. The proposed solution is to control and validate the distribution channel by authenticating the origin of products. Authentication is accomplished by verification of distinct taggants associated with the articles, such as on its label, along with other product distribution information in optical, spatial-encoding indicia, such as a barcode. The taggant information is used to identify, validate, and distinguish the origin of the source of the articles, such as goods or products. The taggant material is thereafter rendered unreadable by modifying the taggants to make obtaining the information unfeasible, thereby controlling the taggants' lifecycle.

A fiber array apparatus and formation method mitigates or eliminates height offset and/or angular offset of the respective fiber cores in the array. In one aspect, the fibers are mounted in the array such that the respective core-to-clad offset axes of the fibers, defined between the fiber core center and the cladding center of each fiber, are substantially parallel. In another aspect, the plurality of fibers are cut from the same fiber spool, ensuring consistency in cladding outer diameter. In this manner, precision in core-to-core pitch and consistency in core-to-core height are achieved in the fiber array.

A detector system for a fiber optic component is insensitive to stray light. Specifically, the invention comprises a detector chip, which converts received light into an electric signal. A baffle substrate is positioned over the detector chip. This baffle substrate has a transmission port through which an optical signal is transmitted to the detector chip. As a result, light that is not directed to be transmitted through the port is blocked by the baffle substrate. In this way, it rejects stray light that may be present in the hermetic package. A detector substrate is provided on which the detector chip is mounted. This detector substrate preferably comprises electrical traces to which the detector chip is electrically connected. The detector substrate can further comprise bond pads for wire bonding to make electrical connections to the electrical traces.

Disclosed is a fishing line spool assembly including an open body frame, wherein a fishing line spool is mounted between two side plates of the body frame at an open end, has a central bore, and is rotatably sandwiched between the two side plates by a clamping adjustable device inserted through the central bore of the fishing line spool and bores of the two side plates. The body frame is provided with a connection device for connecting to a fishing rod. With the present invention, the clamping force applied on the fishing line spool by the two side plates can by adjusted by the clamping adjustable device. When the fishing line in the fishing line spool is drawn by a fishing reel, the clamping force on the fishing line spool by the body frame will function as a brake against the rotation of the fishing line spool.
