摘要: Process for changing the volatile aluminum chloride complex contained in an ethylbenzene production stream into a non-volatile, aluminum chloride product of a nature such that the ethylbenzene in the stream can be separated from the aluminum chloride catalyst by flash distillation. Conversion of the volatile aluminum chloride complex to a non-volatile aluminum chloride product is accomplished by adding selected alcohols, aldehydes, or ketones to the ethylbenzene stream.

摘要: A process for the alkylation/transalkylation of benzene is improved by the use of a catalyst prepared by exchanging a sodium Y zeolite with an ammonium salt to replace from about 40 percent to about 90 percent of the sodium ions with ammonium ions; calcining the resulting ammonium-sodium zeolite in steam under conditions sufficient to reduce the unit cell size to about 24.48 to 24.60 angstroms; contacting the calcined catalyst with a rare earth salt and an aluminum salt either simultaneously or sequentially; and calcining the catalyst a second time in the absence of steam.

摘要: A process using a particular catalyst in the dehydrogenation of an alkyl aromatic compound, e.g., ethylbenzene, to form a vinyl aromatic compound, e.g., styrene. The catalyst comprises a calcination product of (a) at least one iron oxide; (b) at least one carbonate, bicarbonate, oxide or hydroxide of potassium and/or cesium; (c) an oxide, carbonate, nitrate or hydroxide of cerium, or a mixture of at least two thereof; (d) an hydraulic cement; (e) an hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate, acetate, oxalate, nitrate, or sulfate of sodium, in an amount sufficient to provide from 0.2 to 10 percent sodium, calculated as sodium oxide, by weight of the calcined catalyst; and (f) a carbonate, sulfate, or hydroxide, of calcium or a mixture of at least two thereof, in an amount sufficient to provide from 1.5 to 20 percent calcium, calculated as calcium oxide, by weight of the calcined catalyst. The catalyst has improved moisture stability compared to catalysts in which at least one of (e) or (f) is not met.

摘要: A process for recovering monomeric glycols and glycerine from polyoxyalkylene glycols and polyglycerines which comprises heating the polymeric compounds together with a lower saturated mono-carboxylic acid, containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms such as acetic acid, in the presence of a strong acid, e.g. sulfuric acid, or a strong acid cation exchange resin. The product, which is the diester of the monomeric glycol or the triester of glycerine, is recovered and subsequently hydrolyzed to obtain the desired monoglycol or glycerine product. If it is desired to obtain the ester itself, the latter step of hydrolyzing can be omitted.
