摘要: System and method for collecting customers' images into a kiosk, and transferring images to an image-processing provider for processing. The kiosk includes a computer, a data storage device, an upload port, and an interface for capturing digital images. One method includes accepting image information from a customer into the interface of the kiosk, accepting user-identifier and order information into the kiosk computer, storing a digital representation of the image and associated user-identifier and order information for each customer into a data structure, and sending the data structure to the image-processing provider via the upload port connected to a communication medium such as the internet. Some embodiments also include accepting credit-card payment information, displaying to the customer at least one image from the image information and/or a plurality of thumbnail images from the image information, and/or printing a receipt and/or a printout of thumbnail images from the image information. Optionally, the user specifies a modification to be made to the image information and/or specifies a plurality of delivery addresses. Optionally, the kiosk includes optical scanning of film or prints to generate digital images, transferring image data directly from a digital camera, transferring image data directly from a storage medium, and/or transferring image data into a kiosk data port. Some embodiments include accepting a container of undeveloped film into the kiosk, processing the undeveloped film in the kiosk, and optically scanning the developed film to generate digital representations of the developed film.

摘要: A high-speed digital photographic printing system and method includes image-specific backprinting and automatic tracking and sorting of printed jobs. The system includes one or more photographic printers, where each printer can have a different printing rate. A scheduler schedules printing orders to the different printers. The printer-independent image rendering is conducted asynchronous to the printing to maximize the printing throughput. In some embodiments, the rendering image processor does the vast majority of the image processing and outputs a printer-independent data file (generally much larger than the source image data file) that requires little if any further data manipulations or processing in the exposure unit. A photographic printing method and system for producing prints in response to input digital images includes a high-speed exposure unit that exposes a photosensitive material coated on a substrate in response to the input digital image, a chemical processor unit that receives and processes the exposed photosensitive material to form visible dye images on the substrate, a backprinting unit that receives the substrate having the visible dye images and prints information on the opposite surface of the substrate to the dye image, and a cutting unit that produces separate sheets of printed images after the backprinting unit prints information.

摘要: Methods and apparatus, including computer systems and program products, for enabling the use of machine-readable codes. A computer program receives data generated by reading a machine-readable code and detects the presence of formatting information indicating whether the data's payload is in a first or second format. The program uses a first or second procedure to decode the payload depending on whether the formatting information is detected and what it specifies. In some embodiments, the formatting information can include information about how to decode the payload. The machine-readable code can have been produced according to an encoding instruction associated with an electronic document. The first and second formats can be open and closed formats, respectively. The use of multiple formats can enable multiple, co-existing business models in a document workflow, whereby different parties in the workflow can be charged or required to obtain authorization for the use of machine-readable codes.

摘要: A device for applying a fluid, notably a writing pen or cosmetic pencil, includes a tubular shaft, a fluid container that is positioned therein, a tip, and a conducting system for the fluid. The container ensures constant pressure equalization with the atmosphere by having its front and rear ends each being fluidically connected to the atmosphere. At the rear end of the container a ventilation opening is positioned. The ventilation opening opens into the container interior containing the fluid and is sealed by a semi-permeable membrane.

摘要: A method and system of producing image prints and other physical manifestations of images from an order specifying one or more recipients and, for each specified recipient, a set of one or more images associated with that recipient. For each recipient specified by the order, the images associated with the recipient are separated into at least one printable unit of images. Each printable unit of images can be scheduled for image processing and/or printing in an optimized manner (e.g., according to a global scheduling algorithm and/or a “just-in-time” scheduling algorithm). Also, for each recipient, the images associated with the recipient may be separated into one or more sub-orders, and each sub-order may be separated into one or more sub-batches. At least one batch made up of sub-batches that can be continuously printed on the same type of printer (e.g., sub-batches from different orders) can be assembled from the available sub-batches. An image cache can be used to store image data associated with the images while the images are queued for printing, and an image processor can be used to process the images prior to printing. After printing, the images prints can be aligned using alignment equipment and have any curling due to drying reduced using curl reduction equipment. In addition, the image prints can be backprinted using a backprinter. The image prints can then be binned, packaged, and shipped. Moreover, two or more sub-batches from the same sub-order can be combined and packaged and/or shipped together to the recipient associated with the sub-order.
