    摘要: A conspicuity marking system includes a light guide which has at least one optically reflective surface for propagating light through the light guide and a retroreflective light extractor for extracting light propagating through the light guide and for retroreflecting light from an external light source incident upon the system. Light propagating through the light guide which is transmitted into the light extractor is reflected back through the light guide such that it exits the light guide at a location displaced from the retroreflective light extractor. Light from an external light source which is incident on the system passes through the light guide and is retroreflected toward the light source by the retroreflective light extractor.

    摘要: A lighting system has one or more light guides capable of guiding light, each comprising a core and two optically smooth faces. A cavity adjacent to two of the optically smooth faces has an opening and a reflective-transmissive surface opposite the opening. A cover having a light source is proximate to and occludes the opening. A major portion of any light emitted from the light source is reflected by the reflective-transmissive surface of the cavity and is injected into the light guides, and a minor portion of any light emitted by the light source is transmitted through the reflective-transmissive surfaces of the cavity and emitted from the lighting system. A light injection coupler is also disclosed that has an optically transmissive housing and suitable for use to couple ends of at least one light guide thereby making a lighting system.

    摘要: A scanning backlight for a stereoscopic 3D liquid crystal display apparatus includes a light guide formed from a plurality of segments. Each segment has a first side and a second side opposite the first side, and a first surface extending between the first and second sides and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface substantially re-directs light and the second surface substantially transmits light. The plurality of segments are arranged substantially in parallel and with the second surfaces transmitting light in substantially the same direction to provide backlighting for a stereoscopic 3D liquid crystal display. A first light source is disposed along the first side of each segment for transmitting light into the light guide from the first side, and a second light source is disposed along the second side of each segment for transmitting light into the light guide from the second side. Each segment first and second light source is selectively turned on and off in a particular pattern and each segment light source selectively transmits light into the light guide first side or light guide second side to form a scanning backlight.
