    摘要: A portable, user shoulder supported spreader/blower unit includes an ergonomically configured housing which includes a section defining a storage bin for holding a quantity of salt or like chemical particulate material for spreading onto ground surfaces to prevent icing thereon in winter. A centrifugal distributor disk is located in a housing space section below the bin and, a bin discharge aperture aligns over a peripheral area of the distributor disk. A user controllable closure member selectively alters bin discharge aperture size and, hence, outflow quantity from the bin onto the distributor disk, the distributor disk rotating at high speed propelling particulate material out of the housing through a discharge nozzle thereon at a high speed. e.g., 60 m/sec when the unit is user in a spreader mode. To further enhance carry of the particulate material from the housing, a fan impeller mounted in the housing in the common space wherein the distributor disk operates, is rotated at high speed to produce air flow supplementing energy imparted to the particulate material. When the unit is used in a blower mode such as in a leaf collection operation, high pressure air from an outside source can be introduced into the unit so the airstream discharge from the unit is optimized to that required for leaf blowing.

    摘要: A condenser cold trap unit for recovering as separate primary and secondary condensate fractions solvents contained in an effluent drawn from products being dried in a vacuum chamber includes inner and outer shell vessels, the inner shell vessel be disposed coaxially with the outer shell vessel inside said outer shell vessel with a space being present in the outer shell vessel under the bottom of the inner shell vessel and in a course surrounding the exterior of the inner shell vessel. A cover closes off the open tops of the two shell vessels and the interior space of the outer shell vessel is sealed from communication with outside atmosphere, and the interior space of the inner shell vessel is sealed from any communication with the interior space of the outer shell vessel. A common refrigeration coil encircles the exterior of the inner shell vessel and extends down therefrom to effect solvents condensing temperature levels cooling in both shell vessels. Fittings on the cover allows for connection of the outer vessel condensing chamber with outlet from the drying chamber and for passing effluent subjected to primary solvent fraction condensing in the outer vessel chamber to the inlet of the vacuum pump that evacuates the chamber. Cover fittings allow return of exhaust from the vacuum pump to be directed into the inner vessel for condensing solvent secondary fraction and for venting solvent free gas to the outside atmosphere. Drain fittings at the bottom of each vessel allow draining collected recovered solvent to disposal.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for rapidly oscillating specimen containing vessels such as those used in an RNA recovery operation wherein small sized glass sized beads in the vessel are employed to disrupt the cell walls of an RNA component to release the RNA, includes a specimen vessel holder provided as a disc in which the containers are received. The disc is operably connected with oscillatory motion producing means that in operation oscillates the disc rapidly in an oscillatory movement up and down symmetrically of a fixed vertical axis. The disc is haltered so it cannot rotate about the fixed axis. Locking means in the form of a locking plate locks the vessels on the vessel holder and applies a clamping force thereto to prevent relative movement between the vessels and the holder to prevent generation of heat that could be of deleterious effect to the specimen material or the vessels holding same.

    摘要: A vial holding a material such as an organic liquid-containing biological specimen is received in the receptor of a holder assembly, the assembly further including a centrifugal valve. The holder is mounted on a rotor in a centrifugal vacuum concentrator and the specimen is then subjected to a treatment such as drying in the vacuum chamber. Vapor from the drying vents into the concentrator vacuum chamber, the centrifugal valve which is a normally closed component opens due to imposition thereon of centrifugal force created during and attending rotor speed above a certain RPM. At completion of the treatment and before the rotor falls from its certain RPM, a dried material protective gas blanket can be flowed into the vial, the valve closing to seal the vial and protected contents when RPM of the rotor falls below the certain RPM. The valve also is a pressure relief valve that functions when the rotor is at rest to open when a pressure is present in the vial at or above a predetermined value to relieve the pressure and thereby protect the vial and its contents. The holder assembly can serve as a sealed, protected specimen package facilitating handling and storage of the specimen.

    摘要: Acid digestion of liquid specimens which are to be subsequently analyzed by spectroscopy to identify recoverable or dissolved metals is effected in an open digestion operation in apparatus which includes inclined, vertically spaced saddles on which specimen containing glass jars are supported in corresponding inclined orientation so that a surface of the specimens in the jars is overlaid by the wall of the jar and the jar opening is remote from the specimen, this arrangement allowing that the vessel wall facing the specimen surface, during digestion, will serve as a condensing surface for specimen vapors evolved incident digestion. The saddles are carried on an upright frame rotatably mounted on a base so that the upright frame can be moved between jar loading/unloading and digestion operation positions, jar loading/unloading on the upright frame involving inserting/removing the jars on the saddles while the frame is in a position where it is conveniently accessed by an operator for this purpose, but the upright frame thereafter being rotated to a digestion position thereof that reduces greatly, to the safety advantage of an operator, any chance of splatter of specimen during the digestion striking the operator. The saddles each embody a heater therein.
