摘要: A solid oxide fuel cell stack incorporates metallic interconnects each of which includes a fuel intake manifold, a fuel exhaust manifold, an oxidant intake manifold and an oxidant exhaust manifold. The fuel side of the interconnect defines a fuel flow field surrounded by a continuous sealing surface and in fluid communication with the fuel intake and exhaust manifold. The oxidant side of the interconnect defines an oxidant flow field surrounded by a continuous sealing surface and in fluid communication with the oxidant intake and exhaust manifolds. The interconnect may be fabricated by brazing together three stainless steel plates having overlapping openings to permit the exclusionary flow of fuel and oxidant through the interconnect.

摘要: The present invention facilitates operation of systems by managing and authenticating components, including parts and subsystems, present within a system. The present invention includes RFID tags individually associated with the components of the system. The RFID tags generally include at least a part number and a serial number for the components. One or more readers are present and communicate with the RFID tags via a wireless communication medium. A controller generates interrogatory signals, receives response signals from the RFID tags, and employs the received response signals to authenticate the components.

摘要: A solid state ionic device includes a dense electrolyte sandwiched between two porous electrodes. In one embodiment, the device is anode supported and the cathode is formed of a porous three-dimensional solid phase structure having an electrocatalytic phase of a plurality of electrocatalytic particles and an ionic conducting phase of a plurality of ionic conductor particles. The mean or median size of the electrocatalytic particles is larger than the mean or median size of the ionic conductor particles. The device may further include a long range electronic conducting layer of lanthanum cobaltate or other electronically conducting material.

摘要: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for achieving conformal step coverage on a substrate by PVD. A target provides a source of material to be sputtered by a plasma and then ionized. Ionization is facilitated by maintaining a sufficiently dense plasma using, for example, an inductive coil. The ionized material is then deposited on the substrate which is biased to a negative voltage. A signal provided to the target during processing includes a negative voltage portion and a zero-voltage portion. During the negative voltage portion, ions are attracted to the target to cause sputtering. During the zero-voltage portion, sputtering from the target is terminated while the bias on the substrate cause reverse sputtering therefrom. Accordingly, the negative voltage portion and the zero-voltage portion are alternated to cycle between a sputter step and a reverse sputter step. The film quality and uniformity can be controlled by adjusting the frequency of the signal, the chamber pressure, the power supplied to each of the support member and other process parameters.

The invention also provides an apparatus that reduces flaking of material from the film formed on the surfaces of the process kit and extends the specified lifetime of a process kit. One aspect of the invention provides an apparatus for supporting a substrate, comprising a support pedestal contacting a central portion of the substrate and an insulator surrounding the support pedestal, the insulator having a beveled portion extending from a circumferential edge of the substrate.

摘要: A flexible seal for use in a solid oxide fuel cell stack is formed from a fiber matrix impregnated with a plurality of solid particles. The fibers and particles are preferably ceramic and may be formed from alumina or zirconia. The seal may be formed by dipping the fiber matrix into a slurry of the particles in an alcohol, drying the seal and precompressing prior to installation in the fuel cell stack.
