摘要: A hybrid welding apparatus, and a system and method for welding at least two adjacent components having a large gap of approximately 3.0 millimeters that results in a full-penetration weld is provided. The welding system includes a hybrid welder having a defocused laser beam, an electric arc welder, and at least one bridge piece adjacent to one or more of the at least two adjacent components. The defocused laser beam and the electric arc welder are arranged and disposed to direct energy onto the at least two adjacent components to create a common molten pool operable to provide a full penetration weld to bridge the gap at a high constant weld speed, thereby joining the two adjacent components with a weld.

摘要: A dual-wire hybrid welding system includes a hybrid welding apparatus having laser, electric arc welder and second wire feeding device. Electric arc welder includes first wire feeding device for feeding first wire. Second wire feeding device is arranged and disposed to feed a second wire to electric arc welder. Laser and electric arc welder are arranged and disposed to direct energy toward at least two adjacent components along a joint and first wire is a consumable electrode fed into joint to establish molten pool generated by both laser and arc welder with first wire. Second wire is fed to molten pool to form a common molten pool. Common molten pool is operable to provide a full penetration weld with less total heat input to join the at least two adjacent components without cracking the components at a high constant weld speed.

Hybrid welding apparatus includes a laser and an electric arc welder. Laser and electric arc welder each have adjustable welding parameters. Control system modifies welding parameters of laser and electric arc welder, and spacing between laser beam and arc of welder. Seam tracker is operable to measure seam property of adjacent workpieces prior to welding. Seam tracker is operable to send signals to control system in response to the measured seam property. Control system modifies welding parameters based on signal from seam tracker and adaptive control hybrid welding apparatus joins adjacent workpieces having variable gap sizes of up to 2.5 mm with full penetration welds. Also provided is a method of controlling the adaptive control hybrid welding system.

摘要: A system for capturing multiple intraoral images includes an intraoral sensor. The sensor includes a sensor array, a transmitter and a power source that provides power to the sensor array and the transmitter. The sensor is configured to be inserted inside a patient's oral cavity, capture an image upon the presence of incident radiation and transmit from within the oral cavity via a wireless link electrical signals representing the image. A base station positioned outside the oral cavity is configured to receive the electrical signals transmitted from the sensor. The sensor is capable of capturing transmitting to the base station electrical signals representing multiple intraoral images without requiring that the sensor be removed from the patient's oral cavity.

摘要: An electronic imaging sensor, which has an improved immunity to noise caused by unwanted x-rays, images an object by collecting charge carriers produced in the sensor when the object is exposed to x-rays. One or more shielding areas are formed proximate the sensor to capture or sweep away any undesirable charge carriers generated by the unwanted x-rays. The shielding areas extend deeper beneath the surface of the sensor than the depth at which the desired charge carriers corresponding to the object being imaged is collected. The shielding areas capture charge carriers formed by the unwanted x-rays, which penetrate into the sensor to a greater depth than the depth at which the. desired charge carriers are collected. In this way, the undesirable charge carriers are captured near the region where they are generated and before they migrate towards the surface where they can be collected and manifest as noise in the resulting image of the object.

A handpiece includes circuitry for generating a signal representing a video image and a first connector. A wireless adaptor module includes a power supply for supplying power to the handpiece, a transmitter for transmitting the signal representing a video image, and a second connector that mates with the first connector when the dental camera is being operated in the wireless mode. A cable has a third connector that mates with the first connector when the dental camera is being operated in the wired mode. With this system, clinical flexibility is afforded to a dental practitioner.

摘要: An intra-oral sensor for computer aided oral examination by means of low dosage x-rays in place of film and developer. The intra-oral sensor is exceedingly thin for proper mouth placement and in situ maneuvering, with an active area substantially equivalent to corresponding dental film sizes and a thickness of no more than about 3 mm. In addition, the sensor contains limited electronics and no optical elements, and is resistant to moisture and heat and is readily autoclaved. The sensor, consists of a thin, large area semiconductor image array such as a modified charge coupled device (CCD) or photodiode array, coated with a thin, epitaxial growth of a material such as thallium doped cesium iodide CsI(Tl). The coated sensor is bonded to and supported on a passivated ceramic chip, and has an integrated signal amplifier, with the entire assembly being coated with a protective inert plastic layer, e.g., polytetrafluoroethylene, which is pervious to x-ray radiation. The CsI(Tl) is sensitive to x-ray photons, efficiently converting them into visible photons in the 500-600 um range. To reduce light spreading within the CsI(Tl) layer, growth of the CsI(Tl) layer is directed into narrow (20 um) columns. Visible photons are detected by the large area semiconductor array and the output is monitored by a computer until polling of the CCD or photodiode array indicates that there is no further conducting. A signal thereafter causes a read out of the electrical charges for translation from analog to digital signals of images with computer display and analysis.
