Electrical distribution panels are provided that are configured to receive a smart breaker. The electrical distribution panel includes a frame; at least one bus line coupled to the frame; a position sensing circuit associated with a breaker position of the electrical distribution panel, the position sensing circuit being configured to provide a unique electrical parameter associated with the breaker position; and a communications circuit coupled to the position sensing circuit and configured to communicate information pertaining to the unique electrical parameter to an external recipient when the smart breaker is positioned in the electrical distribution panel to provide an address for a device associated with the breaker position.

A circuit protection apparatus includes separable contacts, an operating mechanism, an electronic trip unit storing a plurality of trip parameter combinations, wherein each of the trip parameter combinations specifies a certain value for each of a plurality of individual trip parameters, and a multi-position selector moveable among a plurality of predetermined positions and configured to enable selection of one of the predetermined positions. Each of the positions corresponds to a respective one of the trip parameter combinations, wherein the electronic trip unit is structured to, responsive to a chosen one of the plurality of predetermined positions being selected by the multi-position selector, cause the one of the trip parameter combinations corresponding to the chosen one of the plurality of predetermined positions to be used by the electronic trip unit to determine whether to cause the operating mechanism to trip open the separable contacts.

A frame module for a circuit breaker includes a first interface structured to connect to a trip unit, a second interface structured to connect to a frame, and a current rating storage unit structured to store a current rating associated with the frame and to provide the stored current rating to the trip unit when the trip unit is connected to the first interface.

An interface assembly is for a trip unit of an electrical switching apparatus including a housing, separable contacts, and an operating mechanism for opening and closing the separable contacts. The trip unit cooperates with the operating mechanism and includes an enclosure, a controller, and a cover member having a plurality of indicia. The interface assembly includes at least one adjustment knob assembly having a post member and a ring member, which includes a cutout. The post member has first and second opposing ends. The ring member is disposed on the second end. The adjustment knob assembly pivots among a plurality of positions to adjust the controller. Each position corresponds to a predetermined setting of the trip unit. The ring member substantially overlays all but one of the indicia, which is exposed by the cutout to indicate the adjustment knob assembly position and corresponding trip unit setting.
