A governor for injection pumps of diesel internal combustion engines in which the injection amount is controlled by the boost pressure. The governor is mounted directly on the crank casing of the internal combustion engine together with an electromagnet which is energized at startup. The governor and the electromagnet transmit thrust and motion to the control rod of the injection pump through the same lever system. The electromagnet is switched in such a way that it overrides the governor during the engine starting process. The lever system is constructed to produce a nonlinear transmission of the movement of the membrane to the control rod.

An air-cooled block cylinder head adapted for mounting on an open-deck cylinder casing of an internal combustion engine. In order to maintain a tight seal of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing, the combustion chamber floor of the cylinder head is designed to be deflected in a manner that does not adversely affect the sealing of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing. This is achieved by designing the cooling chamber side of the cylinder head floor with a gradually changing floor wall thickness in the area directly above the cylinder combustion chamber. In the preferred designs, the combustion chamber floor is designed to be concave or convex. The cylinder head also includes features for effectively cooling the combustion chamber floor and for isolating the exhaust conduit.

The throttle (2) equalizes the oil pressure in the internal combustion engine in front of the heat exchangers and insures that this occurs almost independently of the temperature of the oil. Each cylinder of a liquid cooled in-line internal combustion engine includes a cylinder pipe surrounded by an annular cooling chamber. The cooling chambers are interconnected in series by crossover passages between adjacent cylinder pipes and the cooling chambers have a greater cross sectional flow area on one side of the longitudinal central plane of the engine than on the other side. This cross sectional flow area relationship is reversed from cylinder to cylinder to thereby cause a meandering course of flow for a portion of the coolant thereby assuring adequate flow around the entire surface of the cylinder pipe and good flushing of the crossover passages between the cylinder pipes.
