The invention provides a polymerizable composition comprising: a binder polymer containing at least an acid group having an acid dissociation constant (pKa) of 5.5 or more and a radical addition polymerizable group, and a radical-generating compound capable of generating a radical with light or heat. Further, the invention provides a negative-working planographic printing plate precursor which has a recording layer containing the polymerizable composition. Use of the polymerizable composition of the invention provides a planographic printing plate precursor that is capable of forming high-quality images free from stains in non-image portions, and further has high strength in formed image portions and excellent printing endurance.

A developing rate of an unexposed portion of the image recording layer by an alkaline developer having a pH of 10 to 13.5 is preferably 100 nm/sec or more, and a permeation rate of the alkaline developer to an exposed portion of the image recording layer is preferably 100 nF/sec or less.

The invention provides a photopolymerizable composition hardenable by an infrared exposure, and an image recording material including such composition in a recording layer. The recording layer contained in the image recording material satisfies at least one of the following conditions (1) the recording layer, when exposed with an infrared laser after film formation, has a ratio of an electrostatic capacitance rate of increase in an exposed area to that in an unexposed area of 0.7 or less, (2) an image obtained by an exposure to an infrared laser and a development has a gradation (null) of at least 4, (3) a ratio of a film hardness after exposure to that before exposure is 1.1 or higher, and (4) a ratio of a surface contact angle after exposure to that before exposure is 1.1 or higher.
