    摘要： A broadcast data receiver system is provided and a method of operating the system. The system includes a first broadcast data receiver (BDR) (2) located at a first location, typically in a premises. The BDR (2) receives video, audio and/or auxiliary digital data broadcast from a remote location via cable, satellite or terrestrial means. The BDR processes the data and displays the processed data on a display screen (10) and/or audio data via speakers connected thereto. At least a second broadcast data receiver (8) is provided at least a second location typically in the same premises. One of the first and second BDRs (2, 8) is made functional by a signal received from the other of the first and second BDRs, via a telecommunications line (4) provided in the premises and connecting the first and at least second BDRs together, thereby ensuring that both BDRs are connected before operation of the two BDRs can be achieved.

    摘要： The timing of an un-interruptible process in a set top box or other device can be automatically adjusted in response to user inputs to improve the user experience. A user instruction is received at an input of the user device that causes an uninterruptible process to begin or commence in the user device after a time delay measured from receipt of the initial instruction. One or more input of the device is monitored to determine whether a subsequent instruction is received within a time period. Based on this determination, the time delay applied to future un-interruptible processes is adjusted. By adjusting the time delay in response to user inputs, the time delay can be automatically matched to a user's preferences.

    摘要： A method for controlling the execution of a process in a user device, such as a set-top-box is provided. An instruction is received at an input of the user device from the user and this instruction causes an uninterruptible process to begin or commence in the user device after a time delay, measured preferably from receipt of the initial instruction. The input, or inputs, of the device is/are monitored to determine whether a subsequent instruction is received from the user within a time period. Based on this determination, the time delay applied to future processes is adjusted. By adjusting the time delay in response to input from the user, the time delay can be automatically matched to a user's preferences.
