Abstract: A method and system for generating a combined rearview image of an area behind a vehicle that is towing a trailer, the method including: capturing a first image from a vehicle camera that is installed on the vehicle, the first image being comprised of an area behind the vehicle; capturing a second image from a trailer camera that is installed on the trailer, the second image being comprised of an area behind the trailer; determining an obstructed viewing region within the first image, the obstructed viewing region being a region of the first image in which the trailer resides; overlaying the second image on the first image and at least partially within the obstructed viewing region; and inserting graphics in the first image, in the second image, and/or in a patch region within the obstructed viewing region and between the second image and the first image.

Abstract: A camera system for a vehicle includes a body defining a cavity therein, and a camera including a lens. The camera is disposed in a deployed position such that the lens protrudes from the cavity. The camera system includes a debris region covering the lens and a duct disposed within the cavity. The duct defines a channel therein and has a first end spaced apart from the camera and a second end spaced apart from the first end. The duct is configured for directing an airstream through the channel from the first end to the debris region. A vehicle including the camera system is also disclosed.

Abstract: A display system includes a camera configured to capture raw images of a region proximate a vehicle. A housing is coupled to an interior portion of the vehicle and is movable between distinct first and second positions. A position sensor is coupled to the housing and configured to produce a first signal in response to the housing being in the first position and a second signal in response to the housing being in the second position. A controller is in communication with the camera and the sensor. The controller is configured to process the raw images, output display images with a first field of view in response to the first signal, and output display images with a second field of view in response to the second signal. A display screen is disposed in the housing, and is in communication with the controller and configured to display the display images.

Abstract: A method of detecting and correcting flicker. A video stream of a scene at various instances of time is captured by an image capture device. A local spatio-temporal feature extraction technique is applied, by a processor, to regions of the capture scene within each frame. Candidate flickering region detection is applied, by a classifier, to identify candidate regions. Corresponding candidate regions are tracked over time to detect illumination differences within each analyzed region. An illumination correction technique is applied to the candidate regions where flickering is detected. A flicker-free video is output on a display device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing a collision with a gate of a vehicle are provided. The method includes: determining whether a hitch in a vehicle bed will be coupling with a trailer; determining whether a gate of the vehicle bed is in a closed position; and performing at least one from among displaying a warning of a potential collision and opening the gate of the vehicle bed, if it is determined that the hitch in the vehicle bed will be coupling with the trailer and the gate of the vehicle bed is in the closed position.
