Abstract: A vehicle hitching assistance system includes a controller executing an initial alignment process including searching for a trailer within a specified area of image data that is less than a total field of the image data in directions corresponding with both a longitudinal distance between the vehicle and the trailer and a lateral direction perpendicular to the longitudinal distance, presenting an indication to a driver of the vehicle to reposition the vehicle when the trailer is not identified within the specified area, and removing the indication when the trailer is identified within the specified area. The controller further executes an automated backing process upon identifying the trailer within the specified area, including identifying a coupler of the trailer and outputting a steering signal to the vehicle to cause the vehicle to steer to align a hitch ball of the vehicle with the coupler of the trailer during reversing.

Abstract: A vehicular trailer hitching assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and viewing at least rearward of the vehicle. The vehicular trailer hitching assist system, via image processing of image data captured by the camera during a reversing maneuver of the vehicle toward a trailer that is spaced rearward from the vehicle, detects the trailer. The vehicular trailer hitching assist system determines relative location of a trailer coupler of the detected trailer to a hitch ball of the vehicle and determines a path of travel for the vehicle to maneuver the vehicle toward the detected trailer to move the hitch ball of the vehicle toward the trailer coupler. The vehicular trailer hitching assist system at least in part maneuvers the vehicle along the determined path of travel to move the hitch ball of the vehicle toward the trailer coupler of the detected trailer.

Abstract: A driver assistance system for coupling a trailer to a towing vehicle is described, including a video camera attached to the towing vehicle and an associated display device in the driver's field of vision, in whose video image a static guide marking is displayed along which a coupling mouth arranged on the towing vehicle can be contacted with a drawbar eye held on the trailer by a drawbar. Providing a driver assistance system which helps the driver estimating the three-dimensional position of the drawbar eye in relation to the towing vehicle while rearwards approaching a trailer. The video camera is arranged at a vertical distance from the coupling and the guide marking is formed by two beam corridors arranged on both sides of the vehicle's longitudinal axis converging towards one another in the rearward direction of the towing vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular trailering assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle. With a trailer hitched to the vehicle at a hitch ball of the vehicle, the camera views at least a portion of the trailer. An electronic control unit includes an image processor operable to process frames of image data captured by the camera. With the trailer hitched to the vehicle at the hitch ball of the vehicle, the vehicular trailering assist system determines trailer feature points via image processing of image data captured by the camera, and determines respective perpendicular bisectors of respective line segments extending between the determined trailer feature points in respective frames of captured image data while the vehicle tows the trailer and turns. The vehicular trailering assist system determines a location of the hitch ball based at least in part on an intersection point of the determined perpendicular bisectors.

Abstract: A camera system for a trailer that cooperates with a tarping system of the trailer to capture images during loading and unloading. The camera transmits the images to a display. A driver may watch the display to monitor loading and unloading. The camera system maintains a camera of the camera system positioned to capture images of an interior of the trailer regardless of the operation of the tarping system. The camera system generally includes an arm member, a pivot structure connected to the arm member, a camera connected to the arm member, and a weight connected to the arm member. Responsive to a force of gravity the camera remains oriented upward to capture images of the interior of the trailer during loading and unloading.

Abstract: A vehicle hitch assistance system includes comprising an imaging system, a steering system, a dead reckoning device and a controller. The controller determines a hitch location within a vehicle exterior image received from the imaging system and controls the steering system to guide the vehicle in a reverse direction to align a hitch ball of the vehicle with the hitch location, including by tracking the location of the vehicle using information received from the dead reckoning device.

Abstract: A method for recognizing the shape of an object outside of a transportation vehicle, wherein a respective image is generated at at least two different measurement time points and at least one scanline is specified in a first one of the images and a corresponding scanline is specified in each other of the images, and for each scanline of the first image, a profile resulting along the scanline is determined and a corresponding profile is determined along the respective corresponding scanline of each other image, and by comparing the profile of each scanline of the first image to the respective corresponding profile of each other image a respective displacement distance resulting between the measurement time points of characteristic regions is determined, and a distinction is made of each characteristic region between object and background based on the determined displacement distance.

Abstract: A vehicular control system includes a camera having an exterior field of view at least rearward of the vehicle and operable to capture image data. A trailer is attached to the vehicle and image data captured by the camera includes image data captured when the vehicle is maneuvered with the trailer at an angle relative to the vehicle. The vehicular control system determines a path of the trailer responsive at least to a steering angle of the vehicle. The vehicular control system detects an object present exterior of the vehicle during maneuvering of the vehicle and the trailer and based at least in part on image processing of captured image data. The vehicular control system plans a driving path for the vehicle that avoids the detected object so that the vehicle and the trailer do not run over or contact the detected object.
