Abstract: A method can be used for determining fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle, in real time. The method includes determining a fuel injection quantity of the internal combustion engine based on an oxygen concentration signal from an oxygen sensor and a MAF signal from a mass airflow (MAF) sensor. The MAF sensor is coupled to the intake line and is configured to measure and monitor the mass flow rate of intake air flowing through the intake line. The method further includes determining, via an engine control module (ECM), an instantaneous fuel flow of the internal combustion engine based on the fuel injection quantity. The method further includes communicating, via the ECM, the instantaneous fuel flow to a body control module (BCM) and determining, via the BCM, an average fuel economy of the internal combustion engine based on the fuel flow.

Abstract: A method of controlling an amount of fuel to be injected by a fuel injector into a cylinder of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. A map stores values of a fuel injection quantity drift of said injector. A fuel injection quantity drift is estimated and stored in a corresponding map point to a current engine operating point. A set of map points whose distance from said corresponding map point is smaller than a given distance are selected. All map points of the set of map points are modified by multiplying their entries by a radial weighing factor. The amount of fuel to be injected by the fuel injector to be the requested amount of fuel is corrected by means of the corresponding entry of the map.

Abstract: A system according to the present disclosure includes a coolant flow request module and a pump control module. The coolant flow request module is configured to determine a coolant flow request based on at least one of (i) an outlet temperature of a compressor disposed upstream of a heat exchanger of a charge air cooler, and (ii) an efficiency of a radiator of the charge air cooler. The pump control module is configured to control an output of a pump based on the coolant flow request. The pump circulates coolant through the radiator of the charge air cooler and through the heat exchanger of the charge air cooler when the pump is activated. The heat exchanger is disposed upstream of an intake manifold of an engine.

Abstract: A method can be used for determining fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle, in real time. The method includes determining a fuel injection quantity of the internal combustion engine based on an oxygen concentration signal from an oxygen sensor and a MAF signal from a mass airflow (MAF) sensor. The MAF sensor is coupled to the intake line and is configured to measure and monitor the mass flow rate of intake air flowing through the intake line. The method further includes determining, via an engine control module (ECM), an instantaneous fuel flow of the internal combustion engine based on the fuel injection quantity. The method further includes communicating, via the ECM, the instantaneous fuel flow to a body control module (BCM) and determining, via the BCM, an average fuel economy of the internal combustion engine based on the fuel flow.

Abstract: A method of operating a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine includes setting a value of a target fuel quantity to be injected by the fuel injector, initializing a value of a fuel quantity requested from the fuel injector to the value of the target fuel quantity, and correcting the value of the requested fuel quantity. A first learning cycle is performed to correct the value of the requested fuel quantity in which a difference between the target fuel quantity and the injected fuel quantity is calculated and added to the requested fuel quantity to provide a corrected value. The corrected value of the requested fuel quantity is used to determine a reference value of an energizing time that causes the fuel injector to inject a fuel quantity corresponding to the target fuel quantity. The fuel injector is operated based on the determined reference value of the energizing time.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for testing a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine equipped with a plurality of fuel injectors to detect injector clogging. A test injector is switched off. A requested value of a fuel quantity to be injected by the other fuel injectors of the plurality of fuel injectors is adjusted to operate the internal combustion engine in idle mode. A value of an oxygen concentration in an exhaust gas is measured. A value of a fuel quantity that has been injected is estimated as a function of the measured value of the oxygen concentration. A fuel quantity drift of each fuel injector is calculated as a function of the requested values and the estimated values of the fuel quantity provided by the injector tests. Each fuel quantity drift is used to identify if the corresponding fuel injector is clogged.
