    Abstract: A battery for an electric vehicle includes first and second pairs of modules in electrical communication with each other. The first pair of modules includes a first module and a second module. The second module is in electrical and thermal communication with the first module via a first plurality of outer bus bars. The second pair of modules includes a third module and a fourth module. The fourth module is in electrical and thermal communication with the third module via a second plurality of outer bus bars. The first and second pairs of modules are coupled to each other via a first inner connecting bus bar and a second inner connecting bus bar proximate to a center region of each of the second and third modules.

    Abstract: According to aspects of the present disclosure, a lightweight busbar includes an aluminum body, a copper connector, and a cladded interface. The aluminum body defines a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The copper connector is disposed proximate the first end of the aluminum body. The copper connector is configured to be fastened to an external component. The cladded interface bonds the copper connector to the first end of the aluminum body. The cladded interface inhibits yield between aluminum and copper during thermal cycling.

    Abstract: An electrical system includes a battery disconnect unit (BDU) connected to a rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) via a high-voltage bus. The BDU has one or more contactors that close responsive a low-voltage drive current to thereby connect the RESS to the high-voltage bus. A low-voltage drive circuit conducts the drive current to the contactor(s). Opening of a low-voltage connection interrupts the drive current and causes the contactor(s) to transition from the closed state to an open state. The contactor(s) open in response to interruption of the drive current to thereby disconnect the RESS. The contactor(s) may be closed again after a lockout safety procedure, such that reestablishing the electrical connection does not itself re-energize the high-voltage bus. An electrified powertrain includes a transmission, electric machine, power inverter module, and the above-noted electrical system.
