Anode active material is arranged on a first surface of the first current collector and is configured to exchange lithium ions. The anode active material comprises silicon. Empty spaces are formed in the anode active material in a predetermined pattern. A solid electrolyte layer is arranged adjacent to the anode electrode. A cathode electrode comprises a second current collector and cathode active material configured to exchange lithium ions and arranged adjacent to the solid electrolyte layer.

摘要: An electrochemical cell is provided that includes a first electrode, a second electrode, a separating layer that physically separates the first and second electrodes, and a porous layer disposed between the separating layer and the first electrode. The porous layer includes a porous material having a plurality of pores and a lithiating material that at least partially fills the pores of the plurality. The porous layer can be a continuous coating disposed on a surface of the separating layer opposing the first electrode or a continuous coating disposed on a surface of the first electrode opposing the separating layer. The porous material can include zeolites, aerogels, silicon oxides, porous aluminum oxides, titanium oxides, manganese oxides, and/or magnesium oxides. The lithiating material can include lithium peroxide and can fill between about 30 and about 60% of the pores of the porous material.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a coated separator including a porous separator and a ceramic coating disposed on one or more surfaces thereof. The ceramic coating includes a ceramic material and an additive selected from the group consisting of: lithium nitrate (LiNO3), lithium phosphate (LiPO3), lithium orthophosphate (Li3PO4), lithium difluoro (oxalate) borate (LiDBoB), cyclic sulfone, polysulfide, lithium halide salts, and combinations thereof. In certain variations, the coated separator is prepared by contacting the porous separator with a slurry including the ceramic material and the additive. In other variations, the coated separator is prepared by forming a ceramic coating on one or more surfaces of a porous separator and contacting the porous separator with the additive, for example by immersing, or alternatively, a spraying process.

At least one of the porous matrix, the functional material, and the polymer binder is configured to serve as an intumescent carbon source. The oxide is configured to catalyze thermal degradation of the intumescent carbon source to form intumescent carbon at a first temperature. The first temperature is greater than or equal to about 300° C. The thermal barrier component is configured to mitigate thermal runaway in an electrochemical cell. The thermal barrier component may include one or more layers.

摘要: A method of manufacturing a silicon-carbon composite electrode assembly for an electrochemical cell includes forming an electrode by pyrolyzing at least a portion of a polymer in an assembly to form pyrolyzed carbon. The assembly includes an electrode precursor in electrical contact with a current collector. The electrode precursor includes a polymer and an electroactive material. The electroactive material includes silicon. The current collector includes an electrically-conductive material. The pyrolyzing includes directing an energy stream toward a surface of the electrode precursor. The surface is disposed opposite the current collector. The silicon-carbon composite electrode assembly includes the electrode and the current collector. In certain variations, the energy stream includes a laser beam or a plasma jet. In certain aspects, the electrode defines a concentration gradient between a first surface and a second surface.
