Abstract: A blind spot warning system is provided for a motor vehicle having a longitudinal axis and a steering shaft. The system includes a steering angle sensor (SAS), which is coupled to the steering shaft and generates a steering signal associated with a wheel angle in response to the steering shaft rotating. The system further includes a computer having one or more processors and a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions. The processor is programmed to determine a blind spot region extending from a sideview mirror of the motor vehicle and based on the wheel angle. The processor is further programmed to generate an actuation signal associated with the blind spot region. The system further includes one or more light projectors that project a light onto a roadway adjacent to the motor vehicle to indicate a current size and a current location of the blind spot region.

Abstract: A distracted driving elimination system includes an image capture device within a passenger compartment of an automobile capturing images of a first hand and a second hand of a vehicle operator and a steering wheel. An analysis unit has a geometry and visual characteristics of multiple predetermined items saved in a memory. The analysis unit receives the images and compares the images to the predetermined items saved in the memory to identify if any one of the first hand or the second hand of the vehicle operator is not in direct contact with the steering and is in direct contact with one of the predetermined items thereby initiating a distracted driving event. A distracted driving signal is generated when the distracted driving event is initiated. An indication system generates an indication when the distracted driving signal is forwarded, the indication alerting the vehicle operator of the distracted driving event.

Abstract: A cross-traffic warning system for a motor vehicle includes first and second input devices transmitting associated first and second input signals for first and second detected objects positioned on the roadway. The system further includes a computer having one or more processors and a computer readable medium storing instructions. The processor is programmed to determine that the first object is a Vulnerable Road User (“VRU”) travelling on a first path based on the first input signal. The processor is further programmed to determine that the second object is a third party vehicle and further that the VRU and the third party vehicle are travelling on an associated one of first and second paths to imminently collide with one another based on the first and second input signals. The processor is further programmed to generate an actuation signal in response to the processor determining the imminent collision.
