摘要: A latching piercing pin useable to retain the pin and an associated fluid vial in latching relation. Latching members provided on the pin engage a peripheral lip provided on the end cap of the vial to maintain the latching relation between the pin and the vial. The pin is useable with vials and end caps of varying sizes, although larger end caps may require the mounting of a locking ring on the end cap of the vial to receive and engage the latching piercing pin.

摘要: A method for aligning first and second optical fibers of a fiber optic connector at a fiber interface wherein the first optical fiber has a beveled angle end face and the second optical fiber a complementary beveled angle end face, the method including the step of abutting the respective fiber end faces at an angle at the interface, cooperatively engaging a vertical reference surface associated with the first optical fiber with a vertical reference nodule associated with the second optical fiber to align the respective fiber end faces at a vertical aligned position for the connector. Respective horizontal reference surfaces associated with the first optical fiber are also cooperatively engaged with a horizontal reference node and a compressible crush rib associated with the second optical fiber to align the respective fiber end faces at a horizontal aligned position for the connector. The method also holds the respective fiber end faces in suitable connector members in abutting and full engagement at the fiber interface, within a connector enclosure, in a fixed aligned position, in which the vertical aligned position is coincident with the horizontal aligned position for the optical fibers of the connector.

摘要: Redundant segment display characters are used to provide a fail-safe indication of critical parameters. In one preferred form of the invention, selected segments of a redundant segment character include pairs of segments that are arranged proximate to each other and extend generally parallel to each other. The pairs of redundant segments are activated simultaneously in response to multiplexed fore plane and back plane drive signals applied to conductive regions of a liquid crystal display. The remaining portions of the redundant segment character each comprise single activated regions. The portions of the display character that include redundant segments are selected to minimize errors in reading a numeric value indicated by the character in the event that one of the segments fails to operate properly. In another preferred form of the invention, all of the portions of the character are pairs of redundant segments. In yet another embodiment, the pairs of redundant segments are arranged serially, end-to-end. In the event that one of the redundant segments fails to activate or always remains activated, such failure is visually apparent to an operator by comparison to the other segment of the redundant pair.

摘要: A fiber optic connector in which first and second optical fibers are aligned at a fiber interface of the connector. The first optical fiber has a beveled angle end face, and the second optical fiber has a complementary beveled angle end face. Abutting connector members are joined in a connector enclosure which enables the respective fiber end faces to abut at an angle at the fiber interface. The respective fiber end faces are joined at a vertical aligned position for the connector, also at a horizontal aligned position for the connector. Suitable alignment means provided on the connector members enable alignment of the fiber end faces at the fiber interface. In a fixed aligned position of the assembled connector, the respective fiber end faces are held in abutting and full engagement at the fiber interface, in which the vertical aligned position of the optical fibers in the connector is coincident with the horizontal aligned position thereof.

摘要: Support apparatus for a fiber optic cable assembly which includes optical fibers having end faces, high tensile strength fibers contiguous with and generally parallel to the optical fibers, and one or more electrical conductors. A main body portion of the apparatus supports the fiber optic cable assembly and includes a central channel and posts therein, for first supporting the cable assembly, then separating the optical fibers from the high tensile strength elements and the electrical conductor, and then aligning the optical fibers on the apparatus so as to precisely position the respective end faces thereof at an outer end of the main body portion of the apparatus.

摘要: A drug identification and security apparatus usable in conjunction with an electronic drug delivery system having at least one drug channel therein, the apparatus providing a first interlock mechanism between a locking member of the apparatus and the drug delivery system to lock the upper and lower doors of the drug channel and to disengage the drug delivery system and prevent removal of a drug container/cassette assembly when the locking member is in a locked position. A second interlock mechanism is interposed between a bar code reading device usable with the drug delivery apparatus and a sensor provided on the drug delivery system, the sensor assuring the placement of a cassette assembly in a drug channel with a scanner activating a switch to enable the scanner to read identifying indicia provided on a drug container of a cassette assembly installed in the drug channel, and both cassette sensor and scanner switch must be activated to enable a scan of a drug container installed in the drug channel, to enable the drug delivery system to deliver the drug in the container through the drug channel to the patient receiving a drug dosage in a controlled amount and at a controlled delivery rate.

摘要: A bi-directional cracking valve that can be selectively opened. Bi-directional cracking valve (10, 70) is formed using an elastomeric membrane (34). Centered within the elastomeric membrane is a slit (36) that remains closed, blocking fluid flow through the device until a differential pressure across the elastomeric membrane exceeds a predefined cracking pressure, sufficient to force fluid through the slit. The elastomeric membrane is an integral part of an elastomeric cylinder (28), which is mounted in a valve carrier (12). The valve carrier includes ports disposed at opposite ends and the ports are adapted to couple to tubing. An operator can selectively enable fluid flow through the device by squeezing side tabs (40, 42) disposed on opposite sides of the elastomeric membrane together, forcing the slit open. A latch (46) is provided to keep the bi-directional cracking valve in an open state.
