摘要: A system for modulating a carrier frequency to support nondestructive bitwise arbitration of a communication medium. The system comprises a first sensor module coupled to a power supply line via a first power line coupling circuit. The first sensor module comprises a first micro-controller and a first transceiver. The first transceiver includes a first transmitter for converting a digital signal received from the first micro-controller into a first analog signal for transmission over the power supply line. The first transmitter includes a first oscillator operating within an allowable frequency deviation to provide a first predetermined onset phase. The system further comprises a second sensor module coupled to the power supply line via a second power line coupling circuit. The second sensor module comprises a second micro-controller and a second transceiver. The second transceiver includes a second transmitter for converting a digital signal received from the second micro-controller into a second analog signal for transmission over the power supply line. The second transmitter includes a second oscillator operating within the allowable frequency deviation to provide a second predetermined onset phase. The second analog signal is different from the first analog signal and the second predetermined onset phase is different from the first predetermined onset phase. The difference between the first predetermined onset phase and the second predetermined onset phase is within a limit.

摘要: A system and method for wireless communication. The system can include a transmitter that transmits a data signal having a time period without data transmission. The system can also include a receiver including a first antenna, a second antenna, a switch that activates one of the first antenna and the second antenna, and a processor that estimates a first signal-to-noise ratio for the first antenna and a second signal-to-noise ratio for the second antenna during the time period without data transmission. The processor can control the switch to select one of the first antenna and the second antenna based on a comparison between the first signal-to-noise ratio and the second signal-to-noise ratio.

摘要: A continuous, non-invasive fetal heart rate measurement is produced using one or more ultrasonic transducer array patches that are adhered or attached to the mother. Each ultrasound transducer array is operated in an autonomous mode by a digital signal processor to obtain data from which fetal heart rate information can be derived. Each ultrasonic transducer array patch comprises a multiplicity of subelements that are switchably reconfigurable to form elements having different shapes, e.g., annular rings. Each subelement comprises a plurality of interconnected cMUT cells that are not switchably disconnectable. The use of cMUT patches will provide the ability to interrogate a three-dimensional space electronically (i.e. without mechanical beam steering) with ultrasound, using a transducer device that is thin and lightweight enough to stick to the patient's skin like an EKG electrode. The ultrasound device can track the fetal heart in three-dimensional space as it moves due to the mother's motion or the motion of the unborn child within the womb.

摘要: Ultrasound is used to provide input data for a blood pressure estimation scheme. The use of transcutaneous ultrasound provides arterial lumen area and pulse wave velocity information. In addition, ultrasound measurements are taken in such a way that all the data describes a single, uniform arterial segment. Therefore a computed area relates only to the arterial blood volume present. Also, the measured pulse wave velocity is directly related to the mechanical properties of the segment of elastic tube (artery) for which the blood volume is being measured. In a patient monitoring application, the operator of the ultrasound device is eliminated through the use of software that automatically locates the artery in the ultrasound data, e.g., using known edge detection techniques. Autonomous operation of the ultrasound system allows it to report blood pressure and blood flow traces to the clinical users without those users having to interpret an ultrasound image or operate an ultrasound imaging device.

摘要: A hostile detector for interception of time-hopped ultra-wide band (TH-UWB) impulse radio transmissions. Synchronization of the hostile detector to the transmitter is not assumed. The detector includes respective parallel matched filters applied to respective time-delayed portions of the TH UWB impulse radio signal. Each time-delayed portion has a duration corresponding to the duration of the pulses. The parallel matched filters provide respective analog output signals. A function selects one of the respective analog output signals that is a maximum among the respective analog output signals. An analog-to-digital converter digitizes the selected one of the respective analog output signals to provide a digitized output signal. A polyphase finite impulse response (FIR) filter is applied to the digitized output signal. A transmission is detected in case the output of the polyphase FIR filter exceeds a decision threshold, which is based on a false alarm rate.
