A functional styrene-butadiene copolymer is disclosed. More specifically, the copolymer is prepared by radical polymerization of a styrene monomer, a butadiene monomer and an epoxy acrylate monomer in an emulsion state and ring-opening of the resultant styrene-butadiene-epoxy acrylate copolymer. When blended with silica, the disclosed copolymer provides excellent wet stopping performance and superior wear resistance. Therefore, it can be usefully applied for industrial materials including fuel-efficient tires, snow tires, belts, hoses, etc.

This invention relates to a method for the selective hydrogenation of the unsaturated double bonds in the conjugated diene units of a homopolymer or copolymer in the presence of a novel homogeneous organotitanium-based catalyst. Also, the process of this invention can demonstrate a high yield of hydrogenation and hydrogenation reproducibility using a novel catalyst, so prepared from a mixture consisting of a substituted or unsubstituted monocyclopentadienyl titanium compound expressed by the following formula 1 and lithium hydride derived from a reaction of both alkyl lithium and hydrogen in solution. In particular, this invention also relates to a novel method for the selective hydrogenation of unsaturated double bonds in the conjugated diene units of a conjugated diene polymer or copolymer, so prepared via the reaction between a conjugated diene monomer and vinyl-substituted aromatic monomer wherein, R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5, which may be same or different, are selected from hydrogen atoms and alkyl groups of 1˜5 carbon atoms; X1, X2 and X3, which may be same or different, are selected from halogen atoms.

A method for controlling the degree of branching of a 1,4-cis polybutadiene when preparing the 1,4-cis polybutadiene from 1,3-butadiene monomers in a nonpolar solvent using a catalyst system containing a an organonickel compound, alkylaluminum compound, and a boron fluoride complex is carried out by controlling the catalyst combination and a pretreatment condition. The method allows easy control of the degree of branching of the 1,4-cis polybutadiene without having to control the polymerization temperature or to add additional additives. As a result, the processability and the physical properties of the polymer can be optimized.

This invention relates to a process for selectively hydrogenating the unsaturated double bonds of conjugated diene units of a homopolymer or copolymer. By using a highly active novel homogeneous organo titanium catalyst represented by formula (I) and lithium hydride (LiH) prepared in solution of organo lithium compound and hydrogen as a reducing agent, a polymer could be hydrogenated with significantly high yield and good reproducibility. In addition, this invention is characterized by a novel method in that when a copolymer containing a conjugated diene and vinyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, the unsatured double bonds of conjugated diene units are selectively hydrogenated. In said formula where, Cp is a cyclopentadienyl group (C5H5); R1 and R2 are the same or different and are selected from halogen atom; R3 and R4 are the same of different and are selected from hydrogen atoms, alkyl or alkoxy group containing 1 to 12 carbon atoms, aryl or aryloxy groups containing 6 to 20 carbon atoms and cycloalkyl groups containing 6 to 20 carbon atoms.
