The hard coating has a composition represented by the formula TixAlyMzN, in which the “x”, “y”, and “z” respectively represent the atomic percentage of Ti, Al, and M. The “M” is Sc or Dy. The “x”, “y” and “z” satisfy the following relationships: x+y+z=1, 35%≦x≦45%, and 0.01%≦z≦1%. A method for making the coated article is also described there.
