The coating film includes a first alternating layer and a second alternating layer formed on the first alternating layer. The first alternating layer includes first and second layers. The second alternating layer includes third and fourth layers. One or a plurality of the first layers and one or a plurality of the second layers are layered alternately, and one or a plurality of the third layers and one or a plurality of the fourth layers are layered alternately.

A method for producing such a component (100) is also provided.

Abstract: Disclosed is a piston ring having a substrate to which a wear resistant coating is applied that includes at least one first element with a melting point Tm>760° C. The wear resistant coating contains at least one second element with a melting point Tm>760° C. The wear resistant coating also includes droplets which have a diameter and which contain at least the first element, where at least 90% of the droplets have a value 1 μm≤D≤10 μm. In the method for producing a wear resistant coating using an arc evaporation techniques, the target material includes at least one first element with a melting point Tm>760° C. and at least one second element with a melting point Tm>760° C., wherein the quantity of the second material contained in the target material is such that the melting point Tm of the target material >1000° C.

Abstract: A surface-coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coating formed on a surface of the base material. The coating includes a first hard coating layer including crystal grains having a sodium chloride-type crystal structure. The crystal grain has a layered structure in which a first layer composed of nitride or carbonitride of and a second layer composed of nitride or carbonitride of AlyTi1-y are stacked alternately into one or more layers. The first layer each has an atomic ratio x of Al varying in a range of 0.6 or more to less than 1. The second layer each has an atomic ratio y of Al varying in a range of 0.45 or more to less than 0.6. The largest value of difference between the atomic ratio x and the atomic ratio y is 0.05≤x−y≤0.5.

Abstract: Methods for forming silicon nitride films are disclosed that comprise the steps of: providing a substrate in a reactor; introducing into the reactor an at least one organoaminosilane having a least one SiH3 group described herein wherein the at least one organoaminosilane reacts on at least a portion of the surface of the substrate to provide a chemisorbed layer; purging the reactor with a purge gas; introducing a plasma comprising nitrogen and an inert gas into the reactor to react with at least a portion of the chemisorbed layer and provide at least one reactive site wherein the plasma is generated at a power density ranging from about 0.01 to about 1.5 W/cm2.
