Abstract:
Novel compounds which are produced from aminated alkoxylated aliphatic alcohols and alkyl phenols are described. The compounds are formed by reacting the nitrogen atom with certain compounds to form hydroxyl, carboxyl or sulfonate terminated compounds susceptible to salt formation with Group 1a and 2a metals, particularly sodium and potassium, to increase the water solubility of the compound. These compounds, particularly the salts of these compounds, are useful surface active agents and are soluble in polar and non-polar solvents. The are useful as oil and fuel additives, anticorrosive agents, detergents, froth flotation and oil recovery chemicals, and certain metal salts of the compound are useful as isocyanurate catalysts.

Abstract:
Novel fatty amines, amides and salts thereof may be made from the reaction of polyoxyalkylenepolyamine residues with fatty acids and/or fatty acid esters under relatively mild reaction conditions in the absence of a catalyst. Remarkably, the residues or bottoms products from the synthesis of polyoxyalkylenepolyamines, such as triethylene glycol diamine and tetraethylene glycol diamine, also known as JEFFAMINE.RTM. EDR amines, may be reacted with the fatty acids and/or fatty acid esters to give materials useful in corrosion inhibitors, pigment wetting agents, mineral flotation and flocculation aids, asphalt emulsifiers, surfactants, detergents, petroleum additives, etc.
Abstract:
Dicyclopentadiene sulfonate has been found to possess useful properties in liquid detergent formulations. The composition itself is not surface active, but it is an efficient hydrotrope for surface active agent compositions. It increases phase stability, reduces viscosity and prevent gelling of concentrated surfactant blends.
Abstract:
A dicyclopentadiene derived ethoxysulfonate alone or combined with a petroleum sulfonate surfactant is dissolved in water to form an effective surfactant fluid that is stable in high salinity and/or high temperature environments. The surfactant fluid is injected into an underground petroleum-containing reservoir in an enhanced oil recovery process.
Abstract:
An extractive distillation agent consisting essentially of glycerol-1,3-di-t-butylether is fed to an extractive distillation column used for the distillation of propylene oxide contaminated with water to obtain an overhead distillate fraction consisting of essentially anhydrous propylene oxide, and a heavier bottoms distillation fraction containing substantially all of the glycerol-1,3-di-t-butylether and water introduced into the distillation column.
Abstract:
Polyether biguanide salts of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: y ranges from 0 to 6,z ranges from 2 to 7,A is an anion selected from the group consisting of chloride, bromide, sulfate, bisulfate, phosphate, dihydrogen phosphate and hydrogen phosphate,n is the valence of the anion, andR.sub.1 is an alkyl of 9 to 18 carbon atoms or alkylphenyl of 15 to 18 carbon atoms, are diluted in water solution. In a preferred embodiment, R.sub.1 is nonylphenyl. These salts are surface active agents used as hair conditioning agents, foam boosters, corrosion inhibitors, ore flotation agents, fabric softeners or germicides, etc.
Abstract:
Petroleum may be recovered from petroleum containing formations having high salinity and/or high temperature by injecting into the formation an aqueous fluid containing an effective amount of a surface active agent characterized by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl or alkylaryl radical, AO is an alkylene oxide radical, n is an integer of from 1 to 50, m is an integer from 1 to 10 and X is a sodium, potassium or ammonium cation.
