A photographic printing apparatus including a lens controlled to be positioned at a printing position, immediately adjacent a film negative, during photographic printing operation of the apparatus and at a normal position, displaced from the film negative, during other operations of the apparatus. Positioning the lens at the normal position, displaced from the film negative, enables the lens to be more easily protected and adjusted. The apparatus further includes a sample print detector apparatus comprising a CCD camera for capturing the sample print for display on a video monitor with a print position recognizing cursor. Key-subject points are specified with the cursor and mismatch between the key-subject points is determined in order to provide correction of filming-position. A rotating mechanism is also provided for rotating a negative mask member, lens member and exposure station by an identical angle of rotation to obtain a predetermined angle of exposure. Moving elements are provided for the enlarging lens and exposure station in order to execute printing by trimming. The apparatus also has an edge-shaper for machining photographic paper cut by a cutter to remove wastes on the frontal region of the leading edge of the photographic paper. The edge-shaper machines in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the photographic paper advances through the apparatus, and the removed wastes are routed to a waste-box by a suction mechanism.

The negative detection device measures the positional shift of the key subject of the 2D negative. If the key subject shift exceeds a predetermined threshold value, a correction is introduced to regulate the spacial parallax of a background object. If the key subject shift is less than a predetermined threshold value a correction is introduced to regulate the spacial parallax of a foreground object. Exposure is performed after positional adjustments are made.

A photographic printing method and apparatus for producing photo prints from a plurality of separated negative film pieces of a negative film. The present invention enables efficient printing operation by allowing an operator of the photographic printing apparatus to subject all of the negative film pieces of the negative film, as a whole, to a data reading operation, a print determining operation, and a printing operation. Thus, the present invention eliminates delay times that exist when negative film pieces are individually subjected to the data reading, print condition determining, and printing operations.

The passing of one frame of the negative film is considered detected when two identification codes of the film are read. When the two identification codes are detected by the passing movement analyzer, a drive signal of a driver contains a number of pulses which differs from that of a standard number, and a correction calculator determines that a transfer error exists and adjusts the pulse setting of the drive.

A photographic printing apparatus includes a reading device for reading image information from a film, and an exposure condition computing device for computing exposure conditions for exposing a photosensitive material based on the image information read by the reading device. The apparatus further includes an image information converter for converting the image information read by the reading device into image information expected to appear on the photosensitive material when the photosensitive material is exposed to the image information on the film under the exposure conditions computed by the exposure condition computing device. The image information converted by the image information converter is displayed on a monitor. The exposure condition computing device receives instructions through a control panel to correct the exposure conditions for the image information displayed on the monitor, or instructions not to correct the exposure conditions. An exposure device exposes the photosensitive material under exposure condition computed by the exposure condition computing device based on correcting instructions inputted through the control panel. The exposure device is operable in parallel with an input from the control panel to the exposure condition computing device, to exposure the photosensitive material to image information for which the exposure conditions have been corrected based on the correcting instructions from the control panel or for which non-correction instructions have been received.
