There is disclosed a multi-stage compressing refrigeration device for multi-stage compressing a refrigerant using a plurality of compressing means. Its object is to enhance reliability, intend to reduce input and improve refrigeration effect, and to enhance efficiency. In the multi-stage compressing refrigeration device, low-stage compressing means and high-stage compressing means, a condenser, first expanding means, an intermediate evaporator, second expanding means and a main evaporator constitute a refrigeration cycle. The refrigerant flowing out of the condenser is branched into one refrigerant passed to the intermediate evaporator via the first expanding means and the other refrigerant passed to the main evaporator via the second expanding means. Heat exchange is performed between the refrigerant flowing into the second expanding means and the intermediate evaporator. Additionally, the refrigerant flowing out of the main evaporator is sucked by the low-stage compressing means, and the refrigerant flowing out of the intermediate evaporator is sucked by the high-stage compressing means together with the refrigerant discharged from the low-stage compressing means.

A refrigerating device is provided whose burden on the environment is small, and in which a high amount of heat can be removed, and in which return of refrigerating device oil to a compressor is good. In the refrigerating device, carbon dioxide is circulated as a refrigerant through a refrigerating circuit in which at least a refrigerant compressor, a heat releasing device, an expansion mechanism and an evaporator are connected in an annular arrangement by refrigerant pipes. The refrigerating device oil used in the compressor has a viscosity at 40° C. of 5 to 300 cSt, a volume specific resistivity of at least 108 &OHgr;·cm, and a pour point of no higher than −30° C. when the carbon dioxide is dissolved to saturation. Organic materials which do not physically and/or chemically change due to high-temperature, high-pressure carbon dioxide are used in the refrigerating circuit. The refrigerating circuit is provided with a device for trapping moisture within the refrigerating circuit.

There are provided a highly durable and efficient refrigerating apparatus and a lubricating oil composition that uses an HFC type refrigerant and is still free from the problem of thermal hydrolysis of polyol-ester type oil and resulting generation of carboxylic acid and sludge so that the refrigerating apparatus and the lubricating oil composition may be used stably for a prolonged period of time. A lubricating oil composition according to the invention comprises as base oil components a polyol-ester type oil formed by reacting specific polyhydric alcohol with a fatty acid, to which tricresylphosphate and epoxy compound comprising glycidyl ether or carbodiimide are added at respective specific rates. A refrigerating apparatus according to the invention uses such a lubricating oil composition as refrigerator oil and comprises a sealed electric driving compressor whose sliding members are made of a material selected from iron type materials, composite materials of aluminum and carbon, iron type materials surface-treated with chromium nitride and ceramic materials.

The present invention relates to a refrigerator oil composition which comprises 70 to 98 wt % of a paraffin base oil having a pour point of not more than -35.degree. C., a sulfur content of not more than 50 ppm (parts per million), and a kinematic viscosity at 40.degree. C. of 5 to 500 cSt (centistrokes) and 30 to 2 wt % of a naphthene base oil having a pour point of not more than -35.degree. C., a sulfur content of 0.05 to 1 wt % and a kinematic viscosity at 40.degree. C. of 5 to 500 cSt, and in which the sulfur content is 0.01 to 0.10 wt %.The refrigerator oil composition of the present invention effectively prevents the formation of valve sludge. The refrigerator oil composition of the present invention is also excellent in anti-wear properties. Furthermore the refrigerator oil composition of the present invention is excellent in stability and baking resistance in the condition that is in contact with the refrigerant (Furon) and further is excellent in low temperature solubility. Moreover the refrigerator oil machine oil composition of the present invention contains as a main component a paraffin base oil which is steadily available.
