    摘要: A liquid crystal display apparatus has a display section formed on a first substrate. The display section including a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix pattern, a plurality of scan lines extending in a row direction and a plurality of signal lines extending in a column direction. One pixel is connected at each cross point between the scan and signal lines and each pixel includes a semiconductor active element and a pixel electrode. A signal line driver circuit is disposed at opposite end portions in the row direction and includes semiconductor active elements for driving the scan lines. A scan line driver circuit is disposed at opposite end portions in the column direction and includes semiconductor active elements for driving the signal lines. A transparent second substrate is disposed opposing the first substrate and a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between the first and second substrates. An insulating black color shading film is formed on an inner surface of the second substrate and covers at least a partial area of the signal line driver circuit.

    摘要: A homeotropic alignment type liquid crystal display device is provided with first and second substrates confronting each other, first and second bus lines arranged in mutually perpendicular directions on the second substrate, liquid crystals provided between the first and second substrates, and first, second and third projecting structures restricting alignment of the liquid crystals. The first projecting structures have a sloping surface which is inclined with respect to the first substrate and are provided on the first substrate in parallel with the first bus lines. The second projecting structures have a sloping surface which is inclined with respect to the second substrate and are provided on the second substrate in parallel with the first bus lines. Third projecting structures have a sloping surface which is inclined with respect to at least one of the first and second substrate and are provided on at least one of the first and second substrates with an arrangement different from the first and second projecting structures.

    摘要: A voltage having the positive polarity and a voltage having the negative polarity are alternately applied to a pixel between a counter electrode and a pixel electrode. A counter electrode voltage (Vcom) generating circuit or a source signal generating section is provided each of which controls effective voltages to be applied to the pixel for an identical tone so that an effective voltage having the positive polarity and an effective voltage having the negative polarity are asymmetrically applied to the pixel for all of the tones which can be displayed. The counter electrode voltage (Vcom) generating circuit or the source signal generating section shifts a counter electrode voltage Vcom-A or a source voltage by 0.3 V or more from a voltage causing the effective voltages to be symmetrically applied to the pixel.
