Abstract: An approach is provided to authenticate objects based on surface patterns on the object. In the approach, a pressure pattern is measured between a sensor array surface of a pressure mapping sensor array accessible by the processor and one of the object's surfaces. A set of characteristics of the object surface is extracted based on the pressure pattern resulting from the measuring. These characteristics are compared to a set of expected characteristics with the object being authenticated based on the comparison.

Abstract: A multiplexed lateral flow assay device includes an impermeable internal reservoir having an opening to receive a sample deposition. A fluid distributor pad is arranged in fluid communication with a lower surface of the internal reservoir and divides a portion of the sample deposition substantially equally among a plurality of flow paths. Lateral flow assays having a plurality of flow lines are aligned with flow paths of the distributor pad. An impermeable paper top cover has a first window arranged over the opening of the internal reservoir, and at least a second window arranged over the test results of the lateral flow assays. A housing element houses the reservoir, the distributor pad and lateral flow assays. The housing element includes an impermeable bottom cover and a spacer element arranged between the top and bottom covers and, provides a gap between the lateral flow assays and the impermeable paper top cover.

Abstract: A system is provided for performing metal trace analysis on a liquid sample. A sample holder holds an analysis substrate that includes a reference region and at least one test region. An ultraviolet (UV) light source emits ultraviolet light illuminating the liquid sample. An optical sensor detects radiation emanating from the liquid sample and converting the detected radiation into an electrical signal. A microcontroller processes the electrical signal. An external interface transmits the processed electrical signal to an external device. The analysis substrate is configured for manual movement by a user. A tracking system detects a sample scanning location for the metal trace analysis, and includes a light source, other than the UV light source, and another optical sensor. The other optical sensor detects light emitted by the light source.

Abstract: A lab-on-chip platform is provided and includes a substrate. The substrate includes a microfluidic path. The microfluidic path has multiple inputs and an output and an analysis area downstream from a mixing area. The lab-on-chip platform further includes a cover disposed on the substrate to partially enclose the microfluidic path, a mineral layer deposited in at least the mixing area and obstructions. The mineral layer is configured to at least partially chemically react with fluid within the microfluidic path to form at least first particles and second particles, which are substantially smaller than the first particles. The obstructions are formed or disposed in the analysis area and configured to capture the first particles in the analysis area and to allow the second particles and unreacted fluid to pass out of the analysis area.

Abstract: A rapid test device includes a micropad chip configured for a multi-parameter chemical testing of an input sample. A plurality of paper layers of the micropad chip are in fluid communication, including a sample absorption element, a filtering element configured to filter the input sample, and a sample distribution element configured to distribute the input sample received from the filtering element to a remainder of the plurality of paper layers. One or more reacting elements associated with the multi-parameter chemical testing of the input sample have one or more colorimetric reagents in fluid communication with the sample distribution element. A colorimetric result displaying element in fluid communication with the one or more reacting elements is configured to display a colorimetric result of the testing of the input sample with the at least one reacting element for a respective chemical test of the multi-parameter chemical testing.
