Abstract: A photo protective topical composition, comprising: (i) at least one functional active; and (ii) at least one solubilizing compound having the structure of Formula I: wherein R is C5-C10 cycloalkyl or linear or branched alkylcycloalkyl, wherein the ring size is C5-C7; R1, R2, and R3 are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, and linear or branched C1-C4 alkyl, provided that at least two of R1, R2, R3 are H; wherein the solubilizing compound is present in an amount effective to solubilize said functional active. Also disclosed is a method for treating skin, lips, nails, hair, ears, eyelashes, eyebrows and/or scalp with an effective amount of composition.

Abstract: A substantially anhydrous thickener system in the form of a gel for use in oral care compositions comprising: carboxymethyl cellulose or its salts thereof, a chelating agent, and hydroxyethyl cellulose, in a solvent system, wherein the thickener system is heated to a temperature ranging from about 70° C. to about 120° C. to form the gel. A method of preparing the thickener system for use in oral care compositions comprises the steps of: a) charging a mixture of hydroxyethyl cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose into a reaction container, b) dissolving the mixture of a) in a solvent system, c) charging a chelating agent into b), and d) heating the resultant of c) to a temperature of 70°-120° C. for at least about 10 minutes.

Abstract: The invention provides polymers comprising repeating units derived from (a) from 16% by weight to about 35% by weight of said polymer of at least one N-vinyl lactam monomer; (b) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of functionalized and unfunctionalized C1-C6 alkyl (meth)acrylates, C1-C6 alkyl (meth)acrylamides and combinations thereof; and (c) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of functionalized and unfunctionalized C8-C30 branched alkyl (meth)acrylates, C8-C30 branched alkyl (meth)acrylamides, and combinations thereof; wherein the polymer has a glass transition temperature of greater than about 45° C.
