摘要: A personal noise dosimeter having functionality for increasing the dynamic range of the device. A microphone provides a signal to an RMS detector, which provides a DC signal to a two-stage amplifier circuit. The outputs of the amplifiers are provided to a processor having multiple A/D channels. The processor calculates accumulated noise doses and drives a display, which in one embodiment includes a panel of light-emitting diodes. A current source injects current into the output of the RMS detector to reduce performance degradation. Functionality detects and accounts for voltage offsets in the dosimeter. The microphone is turned off during offset determination. In one embodiment, the dosimeter includes functionality for control of external devices such as sound boards.

摘要: A noise dosimeter with capability to rapidly predict noise exposure over an extended time period based on a measurement of short duration. Either an acoustic or an electrical earphone adapter provides a convenient means to connect the noise dosimeter to an external sound source. A direct input jack operable to receive at least one audio signal provides a signal to an RMS detector, which provides a DC signal to a two-stage amplifier circuit. The outputs of the amplifiers are provided to a processor having multiple A/D channels. The processor calculates accumulated noise doses and drives a display, which in one embodiment includes a panel of light-emitting diodes. In one embodiment, the dosimeter includes functionality for control of external devices such as sound boards.

摘要: A power supply circuit is set forth which overcomes the problems associated with incorrect battery insertion. The power supply circuit includes first and second battery terminals for electrical connection to the battery. The first and second battery terminals are connected to a first transistor switching circuit. The first transistor switching circuit is responsive to power from the battery to through-connect a negative polarity power signal therethrough irrespective of the polarity orientation of the battery. The first and second battery terminals are also connected to a second transistor switching circuit. The second switching circuit is responsive to power from the battery to through-connect a positive polarity power signal therethrough irrespective of polarity orientation of the battery. The negative and positive polarity power signals are available for connection to a load device, such as a hearing aid amplifier. The device is thereby provided with proper power polarity irrespective of the way in which the battery is inserted between the first and second battery terminals. The power supply circuit is implemented in an integrated circuit format and is mounted with a chip capacitor.

摘要: A hearing aid apparatus is disclosed that employs both an omnidirectional microphone and at least one directional microphone of at least the first order. The electrical signals output from the directional microphone are supplied to an equalization amplifier which at least partially equalizes the amplitude of the low frequency electrical signal components of the electrical signal with the amplitude of the mid and high frequency electrical signal components of the electrical signals of the directional microphone. A switching circuit accepts the signals output from both the omnidirectional microphone and the directional microphone. The switching circuit connects the signal from the omnidirectional microphone to an input of a hearing aid amplifier when the switching circuit is in a first switching state, and connects the output of the equalization circuit to the hearing aid amplifier input when the switching circuit is in a second switching state. The switching circuit may be automatically switched in response to sensed ambient noise levels.

摘要: A hearing aid is set forth that includes one or more hearing aid components that introduce an undesired undamped peak into the frequency response of the hearing aid. An electronic damping filter is utilized to compensate for the undamped peak. The electronic damping filter has a notch filter response that includes an inverse peak across the frequency range of the undamped peak thereby electronically damping the frequency response so that the hearing aid output is generally unaffected by the undesired characteristics of the inverse peak. The electronic damping filter may be programmable to vary the magnitude and/or shift the frequency of the inverse peak. A method is set forth that exploits this programmability and allows the same circuit topology to be used in two different hearing aids respectively having two different undamped peaks. A further method allows handling two or more peaks.

摘要: A probe tube for use with an occluding object to test sound pressure levels within the ear canal is set forth. The probe tube has a flexible body portion having an elongated cross section. The elongated cross-section has a generally arcuate first side that contacts the wall of the ear canal and a generally arcuate second side that generally conforms to a surface of the occluding object. The flexible body portion also includes an aperture for conducting sound through the probe tube. The aperture extends along at least a portion of the length of the flexible body.
