    摘要: The present invention comprises a guidewire having a compressible guide section capable of deflecting a catheter to abut a lumen wall. The compressible guide section exerts an outward radial force while it is at least partially compressed within a lumen. The guide section permits a physician to precisely locate a catheter within a body lumen and adjust a catheter tip orientation to be directed to a particular side of a body lumen. A method is disclosed for properly matching a guidewire and a catheter to operate together in the present invention, along with a force measuring instrument to assist in measuring a catheter's resistance force value. This method and systems of the present invention involve determining the exact force relationship between the compressible guide section and the resistance of the catheter in vitro.

    摘要: An apparatus and method of making a guidewire with a preformed three dimensional profile is described. The Apparatus comprises a mandrel having a screw thread for receiving a core wire and at least one securing means for holding the core wire onto the mandrel. The core wire must be retained under tension in order to properly impart the desired shape into the core wire. A system and method of using the apparatus is disclosed comprising the steps of loading the core wire onto the mandrel, securing the core wire and mandrel and then heating the assembly until the wire takes the desired shape.

    摘要: An intravascular ultrasonic imaging probe includes a transducer subassembly adapted to being rotated within a guide catheter via a drive cable. The guide catheter establishes a bearing surface for supporting the transducer subassembly during rotation while also mechanically isolating the rotating transducer subassembly from surrounding tissue (thereby protecting the tissue from inadvertent and/or undesired tissue abrasion by the subassembly during rotation). The catheter is positioned within a vessel to be imaged by telescopically advancing the same over a previously positioned guide wire, the guide wire being withdrawn after the guide catheter is positioned. Thereafter, the imaging probe is inserted into the guide catheter and operated so as to obtain ultrasonic images of the vessel under investigation.

    摘要: Accurate in vivo measurement of blood oxygen saturation by fiberoptical means is made possible throughout a wide range of hematocrit or total hemoglobin values by using a single R/IR ratio I and calculating the SO.sub.2 value therefrom through the use of a second-order polynomial of the formSO.sub.2 =Ak.sup.2 I.sup.2 +BkI+Cin which A, B and C are hematocrit or total hemoglobin-dependent coefficients. These values may be contained in a lookup table accessed by a hematocrit or total hemoglobin value selection, and k is a purely multiplicative calibration constant which can be readily determined for any individual fiberoptic system.

    摘要: Intravascular probe assemblies are provided with both ultrasonic imaging and laser ablation (angioplasty) capabilities. In preferred embodiments, the probe assemblies will include a distally positioned rotatable housing having an ultrasonic transducer and an optical fiber operatively fixed therein so as to respectively emit acoustic energy and laser radiation along a common path generally parallel to the housing's axis, but in opposing axial directions. An optical and acoustic reflector is interposed between the transducer and optical fiber so as to redirect incident acoustic energy and laser radiation generally radially with respect to the housing.
