摘要: One embodiment of a hollow spinal spacer (10) includes a curved anterior wall (11) having opposite ends (12, 13), a posterior wall (15) having opposite ends (16, 17), two lateral walls (20, 21), each integrally connected between the opposite ends (12, 13, 16, 17) of the anterior (11) and posterior (15) walls to define a chamber (30). The walls (11, 15, 20, 21) include a superior face (35) and an inferior face (40). The superior face (35) defines a first opening (36) in communication with the chamber (30) and includes a first vertebral engaging surface (37). The inferior face (40) defines a second opening (41) in communication with the chamber (30) and includes a second vertebral engaging surface (42).

摘要: One embodiment of a hollow spinal spacer (10) includes a curved anterior wall (11) having opposite ends (12, 13), a posterior wall (15) having opposite ends (16, 17), two lateral walls (20, 21), each integrally connected between the opposite ends (12, 13, 16, 17) of the anterior (11) and posterior (15) walls to define a chamber (30). The walls (11, 15, 20, 21) include a superior face (35) and an inferior face (40). The superior face (35) defines a first opening (36) in communication with the chamber (30) and includes a first vertebral engaging surface (37). The inferior face (40) defines a second opening (41) in communication with the chamber (30) and includes a second vertebral engaging surface (42). In one embodiment, a lateral wing projects from an external surface of each of the lateral walls. In another embodiment, the anterior wall defines an anterior superior surface and an anterior inferior surface. The anterior superior surface has a concave shape defining a first radius which is configured to correspond to the anterior shape of an inferior vertebral endplate. The anterior inferior surface has a convex shape defining a second radius which is configured to correspond to the anterior shape of a superior vertebral endplate. In other embodiments, the lateral walls define a convex lateral superior surface and a convex lateral inferior surface. Each of the lateral surfaces define a radius configured to correspond to the shape of a vertebral endplate.

摘要: A shock absorbent prosthetic hip joint is provided, including a socket section that is attachable to the pelvic bone and a ball section that is pivotably engaged with the socket section. There is a first shock absorber section attached to the ball section and a second shock absorber section attached to an upper part of the femur bone. The second shock absorber section slidably engages the first shock absorber section. A spring is disposed between the first and second shock absorber sections for cushioning a compressive force applied between the femur and pelvic bones.

摘要: Disclosed is a urological device comprising a polymeric prosthesis coated on its surface by a grafted or interpenetrated hydrogel copolymer comprising 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, and a crosslinking agent, wherein each constituent of said copolymer is present in an amount selected from a defined range of mole fraction %. The hydrogel exhibits a shrink/swell behavior which varies with changing urine composition such that the polymer undergoes swelling and collapse in rapid response to said change and thereby prevents calcium encrustation. Also disclosed is a method for making the device.

摘要: An anastomotic method for connecting a biological duct, such as the ureter, to a man-made device. The method involves connecting the duct to the prosthesis via an intermediate tissue so there is no direct connection between the ureter and the prosthesis. The method includes securing the resected duct to a remote living tissue, such as the peritoneum or omentum, and then securing that tissue to the prosthesis so that the duct drains into the prosthesis.
