Abstract: A method of delivering a substance into an eye includes recognizing a connection between a tip segment and a limited reuse assembly; receiving dosage information from the tip segment; activating a temperature control device to alter a temperature of a substance to be delivered into an eye; receiving temperature information from a thermal sensor; using the temperature information to control the temperature control device; receiving an input indicating that the substance is to be delivered; and based on the dosage information, controlling an actuator to move a plunger to deliver the substance.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods for defining one or more microbial communities. In an example, the method can include providing a plurality of microbial profiles, wherein each microbial profile is established from a sample of microorganisms obtained from an individual subject. The method can also include identifying one or more consensus profiles from among the plurality of microbial profiles. These methods can be used to characterize normal and pathological microflora in vaginal samples.

Abstract: An ophthalmic injection system has a tip segment attachable to and removable from a limited reuse assembly. The tip segment has a dispensing chamber housing, a plunger, a needle, a temperature control device, a thermal sensor, and a first housing at least partially enclosing the dispensing chamber housing, the temperature control device and the plunger. The limited reuse assembly has an actuator with a shaft, a power source for providing power to the actuator, a controller for controlling the actuator, a mechanical linkage interface, and a second housing at least partially enclosing the power source, the controller, and the actuator. The mechanical linkage interface is coupled to the actuator shaft and has a mating surface on one end. The substance is injected after the temperature of the substance is altered.

Abstract: An ophthalmic injection system is disclosed. The system has a dispensing member, a plunger, an actuation chamber, a lock mechanism, a lock stop, a port, a source of pressurized gas, and a shaft. The lock mechanism travels in the actuation chamber in an axial direction toward and away from a distal end of the dispensing member. The lock stop is located on the inner surface of the actuation chamber. The lock stop is engageable with the lock mechanism such that when the lock mechanism travels in the axial direction toward the distal end of the dispensing member to a first position located on a distal side of the lock stop, the lock mechanism cannot travel in a reverse direction away from the distal end of the dispensing member to a location on a proximal side of the lock stop.

Abstract: A densitometer (10) includes a gas sample plenum (40) that is connected to a gas supply pipe (26) via a flow-restricted inlet duct (42) to at least partially isolate and damp the sample plenum (40) from shocks and noises, turbulences, and abrupt pressure changes in the gas supply. A cantilevered vane (110) is positioned in the sample plenum (40) for gas density determinations on the principle that resonant frequency of the vane (110) is a function of the density of the gas in the sample plenum (40). Abstract: A contacting caliper gauge for measuring the thickness of a moving sheet. The gauge has two extendible members located opposite one another on opposite sides of the sheet. Each extendible member forces a caliper pad into contact with the sheet. Each pad is connected to the extendible member so that the rear portion of the pad exerts greater pressure on the sheet than the front portion. Each pad is also preferably tapered so that the rear end surface and the sheet contacting surface form a sharp edge at the rear of the pad and an angle of 90 degrees or less. Both the shape of the pad and its positioning with respect to the extendible member act to limit build up of adhesive material on the sheet contacting surface of the pads.

Abstract: A baseball training assembly includes a pair of elbow braces. Each of the elbow braces is worn around an associated one of a user's elbows. A belt is provided and the belt is worn around the user's waist. A connection unit is coupled to the belt. The connection unit is centrally positioned on the user's back when the belt is worn. A plurality of elastic bands is provided. Each of the elastic bands is coupled between the connection unit and an associated one of the elbow braces. Thus, each of the elastic bands retains the user's elbows in a selected position corresponding to a preferred geometry with respect to swinging a baseball bat.

A temperature control device is activated to alter the temperature of a substance contained in a dispensing chamber. Dosage information is read. In response to the dosage information, a mechanical linkage interface is advanced to advance a plunger to expel the substance from the dispensing chamber. The mechanical linkage interface is retracted without substantially retracting the plunger to prevent reflux of the substance. Reuse of the disposable tip segment is prevented. The removal of the disposable tip segment from the limited reuse assembly is recognized.
