摘要: Systems and methods for delivering implantable devices, catheters, or substances in or near and/or restoring flow through body lumens, such as blood vessel lumens are described. A catheter having a proximal portion of a first diameter and a distal portion of a second diameter (smaller than the first diameter) is advanced into a body lumen. The distal portion of the catheter is caused to expand to a diameter that is larger than the second diameter but no larger than the first diameter. A working device is then advanced out of the distal end of the catheter and used to remove obstructive matter, deliver an implantable device or substance and/or restore flow. The distal portion can be reduced in diameter prior to removal from the body. A stand alone, guide catheter is also disclosed possessing high resistance to kinking even with a very thin wall.

摘要: A miniaturized obstruction treatment device, e.g., a resilient brush, particularly adapted for medical use formed at the distal end of an elongated brush drive shaft having a hollow lumen formed therein for introduction over a guidewire. The brush drive shaft is enclosed in the lumen of a brush delivery catheter, and the brush is adapted to be garaged in a distal end section of the brush delivery catheter lumen. A Y-connector and a brush sub-assembly connector are attached to the proximal end of the brush delivery catheter and form a brush sub-assembly with the brush drive shaft and brush. The Y-connector allows infusion of thrombolytic agents into the brush delivery catheter lumen for emission at the distal end opening thereof adjacent the brush. In use, the brush sub-assembly connector connects the brush sub-assembly with a drive motor unit connector of a drive motor unit. The drive motor unit receives the proximal end of the drive shaft and rotates it to rotate the brush bristles. The brush and brush drive shaft distal section are automatically extended out of the catheter lumen distal end opening when the sub-assembly connector and the drive motor unit connector positively lock together. Simultaneously, a drive hub of the brush drive shaft locks into a drive chuck of a drive motor unit to enable rotation of the drive shaft, and the drive shaft proximal end is seated in a dynamic seal that inhibits infiltration of blood and thrombolytic agent into the drive motor housing.

摘要: A device for performing therapeutic or diagnostic procedures within the cerebrovasculature includes a catheter having a distal portion, a proximal portion and a lumen extending therebetween, the catheter including an expandable region for engaging the vessel wall, thrombus, atheroma, or other structures. The device further includes an elongate stretching member, which can be a guidewire, insertable longitudinally through the lumen of the catheter, the elongate stretching member being configured for stretching at least a portion of the catheter and causing the expandable region to transition from an expanded state to a collapsed state, and wherein the elongate stretching member is retracted proximally relative to the catheter causes the expandable region to transition from the radially collapsed state to a radially, or laterally expanded state.

摘要: A guidewire includes a core and a coil in composite cooperation to enable the guidewire to be used within tortuous regions of the vasculature. The core has a proximal region and a distal region. The distal region includes a flattened end and a tang for connecting the core to the coil. The coil has a proximal end, a distal end and a length extending between the proximal end and the distal end. The ratio between the proximal region and the coil diameter is 1.4:1 or greater. The guidewire includes three joints for attaching the coil to the core. A distal joint attaches the distal end of the coil to the flattened end of the core. A proximal joint attaches proximal end of the coil to the core. A medial joint attaches the length of the coil to the tang. The three joints cooperate with the 1.4:1 ratio to improve torque transmission ability of the guidewire to enable the guidewire to steer through vessels with bends of over 90 degrees and with lumen diameters of less than 3 mm.

摘要: A miniaturized brush particularly adapted for medical use formed at the distal end of an elongated brush drive shaft having a hollow lumen formed therein for introduction over a guidewire. The brush drive shaft is enclosed in the lumen of a brush delivery catheter and other components of a brush sub-assembly adapted to deliver infusate through the catheter lumen and to be coupled to a drive motor unit for rotating the brush drive shaft and brush. The brush bristles of the distal brush are adapted to be garaged in a distal end section of the brush delivery catheter lumen during introduction through a body lumen. The brush bristles are formed of a thin sheet of rigid plastic material that is shaped to have a plurality of fringe elements extending in parallel from a mounting web. The mounting web is wound about and attached to a distal end section of the drive shaft outer circumference so that the fringe elements extend outward from the drive shaft surface and obliquely of the drive shaft axis. Preferably, proximal and distal spiral brush sections are formed in this manner so that fluids are impelled distally and proximally, respectively, between the proximal and distal brush sections as infusate is delivered.
