摘要: A sound management system for use by a user located within an environment includes a memory device for storing a selection of sounds. The sounds can be music and/or various “colors” of noise (e.g., white, pink, and brown). A controller is used to select one particular stored sound based on a measured biological condition of the user, such as stress or fatigue, or an environmental condition of the environment, such as ambient noise. According to one embodiment, the system is used in conjunction with a sitstand desk and the sound selection is made in response to changes in the desk height. The selected sound is selected to help abate or mitigate distracting sounds in the environment, such as people talking. The selected sounds are played to the user through headphones worn by the user, or through nearby speakers.

摘要: Wind screens for reducing wind loading on one or more solar collectors are disclosed. The wind screens move with the solar collector as the collector tracks the sun in one or more dimensions. The wind screen pivotably connects to at least one solar panel of the collector. Another side of the wind screen may connect to the ground or to an adjacent collect, thus serving to divert wind over the collector. Wind screens may be made of various materials including rigid, flexible, or elastic materials and can change position, orientation, and/or effective length as the one or more collectors track the sun from East to West.

摘要: A system for protecting electronic headset components from sunlight is provided. The headset is secured to a user's head for use and includes an electronic display, a lens, and a battery all secured to a frame structure. The frame structure includes a mask portion which is sized and shaped to fit snugly against the user's face, and a strap for holding the mask to the face. According to the invention, a moveable shield is mounted to a portion of the frame structure, either directly or indirectly, and is designed to move between a stowed position, wherein light from the display may pass freely through the lens to the user's eyes, during use, and a blocking position, wherein sunlight is prevented from passing through the lens and reaching, and damaging, the delicate electronic display. The shield may be sized and shaped to fit both lenses, or each lens, and may pivot or slide between positions, either automatically, or manually. According to an embodiment, the shield may move automatically in response to a control circuit timed according to a particular moment during display of select video content. The shield may be made from any appropriate opaque or diffuse, or translucent material and may even be made from an electrochromic material.

摘要: A way to exchange contact information between two people in a quick, easy and fun way is provided. Each user wears a bracelet that includes an embedded communication circuit and a bracelet-to-bracelet proximity sensor. When two bracelets are positioned within an inch or so, the proximity sensor of each bracelet will detect the presence of the other bracelet and will then activate the communication circuit to both transmit and receive an ID code to each respective bracelet. Each received code will be stored in onboard memory and can later be retrieved and used to initiate a more formal connection where more personal contact information (e.g., email addresses, cell phone numbers, etc.) may be selectively and safely exchanged, as desired. In one embodiment, each bracelet includes a magnet and a magnetic field detector. When two bracelets are close to each other or touching each other, each bracelet will detect the magnetic fields of the other bracelet, which will cause the exchange of information between bracelets.According to another embodiment, each bracelet includes an accelerometer and a microphone and associated control circuitry so that should two users decide to exchange contact information, each will create a common gesture (such as a ‘high-five” slap) and simultaneously shout out a predetermined selected audible word, phrase or sound (such as: “alright” or “great”). Once confirmed, the communication circuit of each bracelet will transmit and receive contact information. Both these embodiments and others are described in greater detail below.

摘要: A sit/stand workstation includes a worktop that includes a powered drive and is moveable between a sitting height and a standing height. An electronic controller offers the user different operating modes, each with varying levels of automation. In one such mode, the user inputs a value that represents a desired percentage of standing time over a given period of time. The controller then uses user-profile information and the inputted value to create an initial custom height-adjustment schedule for the user. During use, the controller moves the worktop up and down following the schedule and uses sensors, such as a pressure mat, to detect how well the user follows the schedule and biometric indicators that convey fatigue and also energy. In response to this monitored user-information, the controller changes time, duration, and/or frequency of the schedule to better meet the abilities and fitness of the user and also to help encourage the user to continue regular use. Sounds, voice, lights, colors, and numerical information are used to help encourage the user.

摘要: An improved media player and a method for operating a portable computing device (e.g., media player) are disclosed. According to one aspect, a portable computing device is able to protect its disk drive when being subjected to undesired levels of acceleration. The portable computing device protects its disk drive by monitoring for such accelerations and operating to avoid usage of the disk drive during periods of acceleration. Through such protection, the likelihood of damage to the disk drive or loss of data stored on the disk drive is able to be substantially reduced. According to another aspect, a user of a portable computing device can be alerted when the portable computing device is being subjected to undesirable levels of acceleration.
