The methods comprise introducing a delivery system into the heart, wherein a prosthesis is disposed on the delivery member attached to the delivery system, advancing the prosthesis to the target site, and disengaging the prosthesis from the delivery member at the target site for implantation. The present invention also provides implant systems for delivering a prosthesis to a target site in or near the heart. In one embodiment of the present invention, the implant system comprises a delivery system, an access system, and a prosthesis.

The screen material is made from biocompatible material, such as polyester or polypropylene. One or more outer edges of the leaflet are fused or sealed to prevent fraying of the material and to form a more non-thrombogenic surface. The prosthetic check valve includes a supporting structure to which the leaflets may couple. Prosthetic check valves assembled with the leaflets can be collapsed to a diameter of less than or equal to twenty-nine french (29 f), sterilized, and stored in a collapsed state. The collapsed valve can be implanted without prior rinsing to remove sterilant.

A handle and methods for its use are provided for actuating surgical components such as blades, clamps, punches, needles, shears, etc., primarily for use in cardiovascular or arthroscopic surgery. The handle is a single-piece handle, including an outer portion and an inner portion. The inner portion is substantially within the outer portion, and includes an actuating component, and a guiding component connected to the actuating component. The actuating component includes a finger grip, and a spring force component which biases the finger grip and the guiding component to extend and towards a distal tip of the neck. A stress limiting component limits stress at a critical point of the spring force component by limiting movement of the spring force component at the critical point during actuation of the actuating component. The guiding component is adapted for movement along a longitudinal axis of the handle, in response to actuation and release of the actuating component, thus allowing a surgical component connected to a distal tip of the guiding component to function.
