摘要: Methods are provided for detecting the surface and/or subterranean locations of well treating fluids after the treating fluids have been introduced into wells and used for performing treatments therein. The methods of determining the subterranean locations of treating fluids basically comprise introducing a treating fluid into a well having a non-hazardous thermal neutron absorbing material combined therewith and performing a treatment in the well with the fluid. Fast neutrons from a source thereof are emitted in the well after the treatment whereby they interact with elements in the well and are thermalized. The thermal neutrons backscattered in the well are detected, and a count representing the detected thermal neutrons is generated. The subterranean locations of the treating fluid are determined by comparing the thermal neutron counts in the well before and after placement of the thermal neutron absorbing treating fluid therein.

摘要: Well completion methods using an aqueous polymer composition such as rubber latex in a subterranean formation containing a salt zone. The composition is used to form a protective layer on the salt zone. The layer is substantially impermeable to fluids and prevents them from contacting the salt zone and creating a washed-out area therein. Further, the layer enables a freshwater cement slurry to be used in the well completion operations through the salt zone.

摘要: The present invention provides improved traceable well cement compositions and methods. The compositions are basically comprised of hydraulic cement, sufficient water to form a pumpable slurry and a normally non-radioactive tracer compound which becomes radioactive and emits detectible rays over a relatively short time period when exposed to neutrons. The methods of the invention relate to cementing a zone in a well and subsequently detecting the subterranean location of the cement composition therein. A traceable well cement composition of the invention is formed and introduced into a subterranean zone to be cemented. Neutrons are then emitted from a source in the well so that the tracer compound emits detectible rays, the rays are detected and the location of the cement composition in the well is determined.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for determining suitable displacement fluids for use in subterranean cementing operations, and methods of cementing that use such displacement fluids, are provided. Examples of methods include methods of water-wetting an annulus in a subterranean formation having an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid disposed on at least a portion of one or more surfaces of the annulus. Another example of a method is a method of using an inverter fluid in a subterranean formation that includes a tubular string disposed therein having an annular region adjacent the outer surface of the tubular string, at least part of the annular region having an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid on a surface thereof. Another example of a method of the present invention is a method of identifying an inverter fluid to use for inverting an oleaginous-external/aqueous-internal fluid in a subterranean formation.
