A process is provided for achieving a high degree of exchange for zeolites, e.g., Zeolites F and W. After preparation of the ammonium form, the zeolite is contacted with a solution containing the desired metal cation while simultaneously maintaining the pH at between about 9.0 and 12.0 to provide a final product zeolite wherein the desired metal cation will correspond to at least about 0.5 of the total zeolitic cations.

The agglomerates are particularly useful for the carbonation of an aqueous medium.

Molecular sieve agglomerates that can have improved physical and chemical properties are prepared by methods which comprise contacting the agglomerates with an alkali metal silicate solution. Molecular sieve agglomerates which comprise binders such as kaolin can additionally be contacted with an alkali hydroxide solution to convert the kaolin to Zeolite A prior to contacting the agglomerates with the alkali metal silicate solution to further improve properties. The molecular sieve agglomerates prepared according to the present invention are suitable for use as refrigerant desiccants.

Applicants have developed a unique process for preparing a shaped article comprising an ion exchange composition and a hydroxy oxide binder. The ion exchange compositions include metallotitanates, metallogermanates, pillared clays and metal phosphonates. The process involves combining the ion exchange composition with a binder precursor and water, forming the mixture into a shaped article and heating the article at a temperature of about 85.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C. These shaped articles are useful for removing metal ions such as cesium from feed streams.

A new family of crystalline molecular sieves have been synthesized. These compositions have a microporous structure of at least ZrO.sub.3 octahedral units and SiO.sub.2 tetrahedral units. Optionally, the molecular sieves contain M metals such as titanium or tin. These novel molecular sieves are prepared hydrothermally from a reaction mixture composed of reactive sources of the components. Additionally, these molecular sieves are useful for the selective adsorption of ammonium ions.
