    摘要: A system and method for enhancing the reception of electromagnetic (EM) waves in a fixed downhole receiver of an EM telemetry system is provided. In one embodiment, slots are formed in a portion of an outer casing and an EM receiver is positioned within the outer casing so as to be aligned with the slots formed therein. In another embodiment, an inductive coupling arrangement is provided to transfer signals from an EM receiver mounted on the outside surface of an outer casing to a wireline that is attached to the outer surface of an inner casing, which is disposed within the outer casing. In yet another embodiment, an insulated gap is formed in the surface of the outer casing. An EM receiver, mounted on the outer surface of the inner casing, is positioned above the insulated gap of the outer casing. An electrical coupling mechanism is further provided to electrically couple the inner and outer conductors at a point above the EM receiver.

    摘要: A well survey process for combining highly accurate well survey data with lower quality survey data in such manner that survey determination of overall borehole trajectory is improved. The inclination and/or azimuth of the wellbore path at each of the wellbore survey stations is acquired with a MWD tool or other survey instrument maintained stationary within the wellbore. Continuous survey measurements, for inclination and/or azimuth are taken during the drilling process and therefore less accurate due to significant drilling noise. Stationary survey measurement is more accurate but infrequently sampled, while continuous inclination and/or azimuth measurement is less accurate but more frequently sampled. The objective is to augment a conventional minimum radius of curvature approximation of the wellbore trajectory between the survey stations with whatever reliable information can be extracted from the continuous inclination and/or azimuth measurements. The continuous position augmentation of the conventional minimum radius of curvature approximation minimizes wellbore trajectory errors between survey stations and thus enhances the accuracy of the calculated spatial position or trajectory of the wellbore being drilled.

    摘要: An antenna structure is separately and independently formed with respect to a tubular adapted for long-term disposal within a wellbore. The antenna is adapted for easy and rapid deployment on the tubular. An independently formed ‘partial ring section’ (or arcuate shaped member) contains an antenna coil. In one embodiment, one or more of the independently formed partial ring sections is placed on the exterior of the tubular to form a well completion. In another embodiment, a plurality of partial ring sections are coupled to a spooled cable for rapid deployment of the antennas onto a tubular in the field. Another embodiment includes partial ring sections forming an antenna with multiple coils of differing orientation to provide directional sensitivity.
