The fiber material (of which a yarn is to be spun) is drawn and combed after carding. In order to determine the combing intensity, a sample is taken from the fiber material after carding and is subjected to an analysis for fiber length and/or impurities. Certain limits are set for fiber length and/or impurities and the combing intensity is adjusted according to the results of the analysis. The fiber material treated with this combing intensity is again drawn and is then opened into individual fibers which are incorporated into a continuously spun and drawn-off yarn.

The invention relates to a process and to a device for the determination of the adhesion tendency of cotton by using cotton samples, whereby the sample taken from the material to be tested is opened down to the individual fiber as in the spinning process, and the fibers thus obtained are deposited on a testing surface under the influence of a certain centrifugal force in the form of a fiber ring. Following complete feeding of the sample, the deposited fiber ring is removed and the quantity of the fibers remaining caught on the testing surface is counted.

An air spinning device with an injection nozzle and a twisting nozzle is adjusted to the highest possible delivery speed for a desired yarn quality by predetermining the desired spinning tension of the yarn. According to the predetermined spinning tension, the highest possible delivery speed is regulated by changing the injection nozzle pressure and/or the spinning draft. Several spinning stations are installed on the air spinning device. At the spinning station, a measuring device to determine the yarn quality is installed between the twisting nozzle and the draw-off rollers. The measuring device is connected to adjusting devices of at least one spinning station. When the yarn quality is changed, the measuring device, together with the adjusting devices influences at least this spinning station.

A method and apparatus for cleaning fibrous material which is fed in the form of a sliver by a delivery device to an opening roller carried within a housing which opens the fibrous material and feeds the opened fibers to an open-end spinning device. A dust separator opening is provided in the housing between the delivery device and the open-end spinning device. A source of suction is connected to the dust-separator opening and a gauze-like covering extends over the dust-separator opening for maintaining the fibrous material within the effective range of the opening roller as the fibrous material is carried thereover during the opening process. The dust from the fibrous material is withdrawn through the gauze-like covering and the dust-separator opening by the source of suction. The housing can also be provided with a trash separator opening having a separator edge positioned adjacent thereto for separating trash from the fibrous material simultaneously while the dust is being removed therefrom.
