    Abstract: A rope storage unit includes a rope reel, formed by a rope wound in a spiral form and a support body provided with an inner space inside which the rope reel is positioned supported by the support body. The rope is a rod having a straight form when in rest state and elastically bendable away from the straight form, the rope being under substantial bending tension in the spiral form. The support body includes one or more support members delimiting the inner space and surrounding radially the rope reel. The outer rim of the rope reel radially compresses against the one or more support members as an effect of the bending tension. A method is provided for installing an elevator rope implementing the rope storage unit, as well as to a method for fabricating the rope storage unit.

    Abstract: In a method for performing a balance check with an elevator, a power model of the elevator is established, including the motor power fed to the motor (PM) and power parameters of the motor and the moved components in the hoistway (PK, PP, PFr, PCu, PFe), a test run of the elevator is made, mid motor power values for the up and down direction are determined, i.e. the power fed to the motor at the instant when the car is moving through the middle of the travelling path of the elevator in up and down direction with constant velocity, the difference between the mid power value in up and down direction is determined, the balancing weight difference is obtained from said mid power value difference. This method allows an easy determination of the elevator balance preferably in course of modernizations of an elevator system with a new elevator motor.

    Abstract: An elevator including an elevator shaft defined by top and bottom end terminals; an elevator car vertically movable in the elevator shaft; an elevator hoisting machinery drives the elevator car; an electromechanical braking apparatus that brakes movement of the elevator car; a first measuring device that provides first position data and first speed data of the elevator car; a second measuring device that provides at least second position data of the elevator car; and a safety monitoring unit communicatively connected to the first and second measuring devices and that determines a synchronized position of the elevator car from the first and second position data, and determines an elevator car slowdown failure in proximity of the top or bottom end terminals from the first speed data and the synchronized position. The safety monitoring unit causes braking of the elevator car with the electromechanical braking apparatus upon determination of slowdown failure.

    Abstract: An arrangement for guiding belt-shaped ropes of an elevator includes a plurality of belt-shaped ropes; and a rope wheel deck including a frame mounted on a structure of an elevator, a plurality of rope wheels for guiding ropes of the elevator, and plurality of bearings, wherein the rope wheels are cambered and mounted coaxially on the frame via the bearings such that they are rotatable relative to the frame as well as relative to each other, wherein only one belt-shaped rope passes around each of said rope wheels of the rope wheel deck.     Abstract: The present invention concerns an elevator comprising: an elevator shaft defined by surrounding walls and top and bottom end terminals; an elevator car vertically movable in the elevator shaft; an elevator hoisting machinery adapted to drive an elevator car; an electromechanical braking apparatus configured to brake movement of the elevator car; a first measuring device adapted to provide first position data and first speed data of the elevator car; a second measuring device adapted to provide at least a second position data of the elevator car; and a safety monitoring unit communicatively connected to the first measuring device and the second measuring device and configured to determine a synchronized position of the elevator car from the first and the second position data, and to determine an elevator car slowdown failure in the proximity of the top or the bottom end terminal from the first speed data and from the synchronized position of the elevator car. The safety monitoring unit is adapted to cause braking of the elevator car with the electromechanical braking apparatus upon determination of the slowdown failure.

    Abstract: An elevator includes a hoistway, an elevator car and a counterweight vertically movable in the hoistway, a drive machine including a drive sheave, a roping including one or more ropes between the elevator car and the counterweight and passing around the drive sheave and suspending the elevator car and the counterweight. The drive sheave is positioned in the hoistway space between a hoistway wall and the vertical projection of the car, the drive sheave rotation plane being at least substantially parallel to the hoistway wall. The rope(s) is/are belt-like, each including at least one force transmission parts for transmitting force in the longitudinal direction of the rope, which force transmission part is made of composite material including reinforcing fibers in a polymer matrix. The reinforcing fibers are carbon fibers, and the force transmission part has width larger than thickness thereof as measured in width-direction of the rope.
