Abstract: A method for modernizing an elevator system, includes using a first and second car for transporting passengers and/or goods between vertically displaced floors of a building, and thereafter removing the first elevator car from use for transporting passengers and/or goods between vertically displaced floors, and thereafter installing a construction time elevator into the lower end of the first hoistway, the traveling zone of the car of the construction time elevator covering only partially the height of the first hoistway; and thereafter using the car of the construction time elevator and the second car simultaneously for transporting passengers and/or goods between vertically displaced floors of the building, during which using the method includes performing construction work in the first hoistway above the traveling zone of the car of the construction time elevator; and thereafter changing the traveling zone of the car of the construction time elevator to extend higher in the hoistway, and thereafter using the car of the construction time elevator and the second car simultaneously for transporting passengers and/or goods between vertically displaced floors, during which using the method comprises performing construction work in the first hoistway above the traveling zone of the car of the construction time elevator.

Abstract: The invention relates to a belt-shaped rope of an elevator having opposite lateral sides facing in thickness direction of the rope, at least one of the lateral sides being shaped to have elongated ribs that are disposed adjacent each other in width direction of the rope and extend parallel with the longitudinal direction of the rope. Each said rib has a first flank face for contacting a flank face of a rib of a rope wheel, and a second flank face for contacting a flank face of a rib of a rope wheel. Each said first and second flank face is shaped to have an arcuate cross-sectional profile, and said first and second flank face are shaped to arc to such steepness that the angle defined between their tangents is acute, and the surface material of said flank faces has shore A hardness more than 85 and less than 100. The invention also relates to an elevator arrangement as well as to an elevator, implementing the aforementioned belt-shaped rope.

Abstract: An elevator car includes a suspension device for supporting the elevator car in the elevator hoistway and a car box. A floor, vertical beam, and roof beam elements form a load-bearing frame structure of the car box. A plurality of planar elements of rectangular shape are fixed side-by-side to the frame structure and extend essentially from one edge side of the car box to another. The frame structure and/or said planar elements of said car box comprises one or more sandwich type beam and/or plate elements comprising a first skin and a second skin and one or more core elements. The core elements are formed from the first skin by cutting and bending or by punching through one or more core members from the cutting edge of the first skin towards the second skin and by joining the core members to the second skin of the beam and/or plate element.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transporting construction material and/or equipment inside a building under construction, wherein the building under construction comprises plurality of vertically displaced floors, the method comprising providing an elevator for transporting transport containers in the building under construction, said elevator comprising at least a load receiving unit vertically movable along one or more guide rail lines in an elevator shaft formed in the building under construction; and providing plurality of transport containers each comprising a container body, and an identification provided on the container body for identifying the container and/or its destination in the building, most preferably the destination floor in the building under construction; providing one or more detectors within the building under construction for detecting identifications of containers when they are within the detection ranges of the one or more detectors; moving a first transport container belonging to said plurality of transport containers to a loading floor; loading the first transport container belonging to said plurality of containers on the load receiving unit; determining by a control system destination floor of the first container comprising detecting the identification of the first transport container with a detector; automatically moving the load receiving unit vertically in the elevator shaft to the destination floor of the first container; and unloading the first transport container from the load receiving unit to the destination floor of said first container. The invention also relates to a method for constructing a building and an arrangement, which implement the aforementioned method.

Abstract: The self-climbing elevator machine room comprises two decks positioned upon each other. Each deck comprises guide means supporting the deck movably on guide rails and locking means locking and unlocking the deck to the guide rails and/or to guide rail fixing means. Lifting means move the two decks along the guide rails in relation to each other. At least one power source provides power to the lifting means. The elevator machine room climbs stepwise along the guide rails by alternatingly locking and unlocking the lower deck and the upper deck to the guide rails and/or to the guide rail fixing means and thereafter raising the unlocked deck.
