    摘要: The present invention provides a polarization switching liquid crystal element 1 having TN liquid crystal 7 retained between two transparent substrates 2a and 2b for transmitting at least visible polarized light with the polarized light transmission axis selectively rotated by 90 degrees when a voltage is selectively applied to the TN liquid crystal 7, wherein a phase difference u of said TN liquid crystal 7 is defined by the following equation: u=2×Δn×d/λ, where Δn is the refractive index anisotropy of said TN liquid crystal 7, d is the thickness of said TN liquid crystal 7, and λ is the wavelength of said polarized light, and a transmittance T of said polarization switching liquid crystal element measured with polarization plates on the incident and outgoing sides is defined by the following equation: T=(½)×sin2{π(1+u2)1/2/2}/(1+u2), and wherein the phase difference u includes a value 1.7 and the transmittance T is 0.1 or lower when the λ ranges from 400 nm to 700 nm. Then, a polarization switching liquid crystal element having a high response speed and reduced wavelength-dependency can be realized using inexpensive and highly durable TN liquid crystal without increasing parts cost.

    摘要: An automatic gain control circuit includes a power calculator for calculating power of a modulation wave supplied to a demodulator; a power comparator for comparing the power calculated by the power calculator with ideal power of a modulation scheme of the modulation signal; a first gain controller for carrying out gain control of a first AGC amplifier in response to an output of the power comparator; and a second gain controller for carrying out gain control of the second AGC amplifier in response to the output of the power comparator. The automatic gain control circuit can solve a problem of a conventional AGC circuit in that precision gain distribution cannot be achieved to the two AGC amplifiers because the two AGC amplifiers are controlled by a single control signal output from the automatic gain control circuit.

    摘要: The present invention provides an image display device including an LCD, a polarization switching liquid crystal cell, a birefringent plate, and an eyepiece. The LCD displays an image using a plurality of arrayed pixel locations. The polarization switching liquid crystal cell has a plurality of electrodes incorporated therein and switches the direction of polarization in which light emitted from the LCD is polarized. The birefringent plate varies the optical path of light emitted from the polarization switching liquid crystal cell depending on the direction of polarization. The eyepiece magnifies light representing an image displayed on the LCD. The LCD and polarization switching liquid crystal cell are positioned so that the distance L1 from the eyeballs to the virtual image plane of the LCD and the distance L2 from the eyeballs to the virtual image plane of the polarization switching liquid crystal cell will have the relationship of 1/L2−1/L1≧0.4 D or L2≦200 mm. Otherwise, the birefringent plate or the like is coated with an anti-reflective coating. The image display device thus makes unnecessary streaks or flickers indiscernible and displays an easy-to-see image.
